pete 2,542
Rangers hero Scott Nisbet being hunted by police over alleged glass attack in Edinburgh pub Nov 9 2011 Exclusive by Amy Devine RANGERS legend Scott Nisbet is being hunted by police over claims he glassed a man in a pub. His victim told police that former Ibrox defender Nisbet attacked him with a pint tumbler. Officers have applied for a warrant for Nisbetâ??s arrest after he flew to Lanzarote following the incident in Tamsonâ??s bar in Edinburghâ??s Easter Road. The 21-year-old trainee chef, a customer in the boozer, claims Nisbet lashed out with the glass and hit him in the hand as he tried to defend himself. He was taken to hospital for treatment to a serious gash and severed tendons in his hand and has been signed off work for six months. Nisbet last night apologised to the man and said his injuries were caused by accident. But the victim filed a complaint and has told police he was attacked by the footballer. Onlookers said the incident followed a row between Nisbet and his ex girlfriend. A source said: â??Nisbet and the younger man are both regulars in the bar, which was pretty quiet on the night. â??Nisbet was there with his ex girlfriend and they were having an argument. â??Nisbet apparently asked the man for his view and he called him a d***.â? â??Heâ??s lashed out and somehow the guyâ??s ended up with a nasty injury to his hand.â? The victimâ??s injury has left him unable to work in his trainee chef job at another pub in the capital. Police have applied to a court for a warrant to arrest Nisbet after he flew to Lanzarote, where he runs a training camp for youngsters, after the incident. But the Record tracked down the 43-year-old footballer - forced to retire from injury aged 25 - after we discovered he had flown back to Scotland under the radar yesterday. He said: â??It was pure accident. â??I spoke to the boy the next night and apologised. â??I offered him compensation, because he would be unable to work and would only be getting statutory sick pay. â??He texted me later to say he didnâ??t want it. â??Then days later he texted again to say he would actually want a lot of money.â? He added: â??The boy was standing at the other end of the bar. I slammed my glass down on the bar and it smashed. A piece of glass hit him in the hand. â??Itâ??s not true that there had been an argument. The glass wasnâ??t meant to hit the boy. Iâ??ve apologised and Iâ??ve offered him money. Thereâ??s nothing more I can do. â??The boy seemed okay afterwards. â??I knew he had been taken to hospital and I waited at my ex girlfriendâ??s house near the pub in case the police wanted to speak to me. â??I have been in Lanzarote. I had no idea the police were investigating.â? A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: â??We are investigating an alleged assault where a 21-year-old man was struck with a glass within a pub in Easter Road on Thursday October 13. â??The victim suffered a serious injury to his hand, which required hospital treatment. Police are following a positive line of inquiry in relation to the incident, and the matter has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.â? Nisbet was cleared of attacking ex girlfriend Jacqueline Rae at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in 2005. It was alleged he had slapped her in the face during a row. The dad of three divorced wife Anna after their 11-year marriage hit the rocks, triggering a bitter split and custody battle. The explosive two-year wrangle included tit-for-tat allegations of assault, theft and damaged property. Nisbet joined Rangers as a 12-year-old and made his first-team debut aged 18 as a striker under Jock Wallace before being converted to a defender. He won championship medals with Rangers in 1990, 1991 and 1992 during the nine-in-a-row era before injury cut short his top flight career. Nisbet is remembered for a crazily deflected Champions League goal against Bruges in 1993. Three days later he limped out of a game against Celtic. Just as his fight to establish himself in the top team looked to be won his career was over. It would seem that Rangers are being held responsible for every ex-employee. If it was Joe Soap would this have got near a newspaper? I doubt it.

I agree Pete it's the continual drip drip of Rangers = bad it's getting boring. craig 5,199
I dont see this as a Rangers story at all to be honest. If I commited said crime I would expect that they would state that I am an accountant. I see nothing wrong with stating that Nisbet is an ex Rangers player. When Alan Thompson got done for drink driving they mentioned he was a former Celtic player and current assistant manager, did they not ? Hardly any difference if you ask me. I thought paranoia was strictly for Tims, apparently not.
Gazza_8 233
I doubt whether the police are actually "hunting" Nisbet.
craig 5,199
I doubt whether the police are actually "hunting" Nisbet. Yeah, that part of the article is nonsense. Nisbet said he waited at his girlfriend's place afterwards in case they wanted to speak with him. Seems he was comfortable in speaking to police. Hunted is a bit strong especially as they dont even have a warrant for his arrest and Nisbet quite clearly can be found if the Record managed to get him.
