a wee positive from Berwick

Recommended Posts

Ian Black was NOT cautioned, and did NOT look like being cautioned.

The BIG negative is we do not look like width will be part of our game anytime soon.

The lad did well to maintain his temper after a few 'friendly' challenges.

Black will get better over time but I'm rather worried about the lack of width and creativity in the side. It's unfair to rely on McKay was out only attacking outlet although hopefully Shiels will help when he returns.

Ian Black has very right to phone the polis for assault, that tackle in the first half is one of the worst I've saw in football and if his leg had been planted it would've shattered his leg. Who that muppet of a Ref thought it was only a yellow is beyond me.

BTW, I thought the Greek chap played quite well, even out of position. If he does that at CB too and Faure is as good as him, we should have good cover. A back three of ...

Faure - Cribari - Argyriou

... may be more mobile and useful than our ageing Goian and Bocanegra (who looked somewhat out of sorts still).

I attended Peterhead and McKay showed a lot more playing in behind the front two, his finish was accomplished. Further, when he came on for Shiels against East Stirlingshire, again the more central role allowed him to fully express himself. His performances against Falkirk and Berwick in the wider role have seen him substituted twice, deservedly. Our other wide player in both these games has been Lewis McLeod and he has confirmed the wide role is not his natural home.

We rely on Wallace and Broadfoot as full backs/ wing-backs to provide width.

Agreed. McKay and MacLeod are both much better in central roles.

Argyrious did OK yesterday but certainly didn't look comfortable on his left leg. Perry isn't a full-back as he doesn't have the attacking qualities required for such a role.

Or the defensive qualities for defending, Frankie. We may have thin resources but Perry is below an acceptable standard if yesterday is what he can do.

Though it's fast becoming a cliche of Scottish football to say that there's more to Black's game than tough tackling, I've yet to see what it is.

Who would you have played at LB then?

He has 3 CB and like it or loathe it he could've went with a back 3. That would've gave him 5 in the middle to combat Brewicks much better and harder working midfield. Instead of that he plays guys out of position and asks Little to drop deeper and deeper to help out the midfield leaving Sandaza on his own to cope with the endless long ball assault up to him.
