As it was a larger site, the club accepted the offer by its landlord of the land adjacent to First Ibrox. So, on 9th December, 1899 Gers played the final fixture there defeating Killie 6-1. Steve1872 4 Posted October 1, 2012 Share Posted October 1, 2012 In the 1892 Scottish Cup Final, played at Ibrox between Celtic and Queen's Park, the ground's new, increased capacity of 36,000 was broken when 5,000 fans stormed the gates which were then closed, leaving 2,000 people outside. At that time, the rules were different and no third match at a neutral venue was needed. Both teams simply went into the draw for the next round. 54andcounting 0 Posted October 2, 2012 Share Posted October 2, 2012 In Sept 1976 after clinching their place in the Quarter-Final of the League Cup, Rangers were drawn against first division Clydebank, a side containing a 21 years old unknown winger by the name of Davie Cooper. In those days the game was decided over two legs. In the first game at Ibrox The Bankies went ahead 1-0, Derek Johnstone equalised, but before half time the away side went in front again - scoring with a penalty kick past McCloy. Alex MacDonald and Johnny Hamilton looked to have rescued blushes in the 2nd half to make it 3-2, but with only 12 minutes remaining Cooper squared it 3-3. The 2nd leg at Kilbowie Park John Greig put Rangers ahead 2 minutes from half time, but the young Davie Cooper netted on 62 minutes to cancel out the lead and no further goals were scored, the tie went into extra-time...no more goals, it finished 1-1. A replay took place back at Ibrox, the game finished 0-0 after another gruelling extra-time, Alex Miller missed a spot kick during the match. A second replay, this time at Firhill Park - Derek Parlane put the 'Gers ahead after only 7 minutes only for Cooper to level once again a minute later. Half-time 1-1. On the hour mark Bobby McKean scored for Rangers to finally put Clydebank and Cooper to bed. Rangers signed Davie in the summer of '77. It turned out a good signing for Rangers for they won the treble with Davie the main man in a very good side under Jock Wallace. Jock Wallace became the 1st manager to win TWO Trebles, John Greig won his THIRD treble as a player - a record for any one player.
