SPL - Is the end now in sight?

Recommended Posts

No club is going to quit the SPL to join the SFL in the Third Division. It is just not going to happen. The only way a club will quit the SPL is if the alternative is a re-structured Scottish League system.

Peasie is absolutely right. The other SPL clubs are in enough financial trouble as they are. Rangers are big enough to sustain a 3 season drop into the SFL but none of the other SPL clubs with the exception of Celtic could do it and last half a season without going bust. They might complain if Liewell can engineer a stitch up to protect Celtic but can't jump ship because if they do they will write their own death warrant.

What I'd like to know is if this is on the cards then where the hell are all the fans of Hibs and Dundee United who were so puffed up with sporting integrity and full of ultimatums to their club boards during the summer? The only chance their clubs have to reintroduce some semblance of fairness into the SPL power structure and get a larger slice of the financial pie is seemingly about to be snatched away by Liewell and their own chairmen. Surely that flies in the face of sporting integrity and if they had a semblance of real integrity they ought to be up in arms, theatening not to renew season tickets, etc to make them tell Liewell to stick his plan where the sun don't shine.

The silence is deafening. Oh but I forgot, sporting integrity in Scotland is defined as "Bashing Rangers" nothing else. Hypocritical shitebags.

If you even pretend to call yourself a journalist Spence, how about asking that question?

You need to remember Liewell literally bullied these clubs into voting us out the SPL. If they didn't then these clubs wouldn't get the paying celtic support at their grounds next season. No Rangers means Celtic get the lucrative CL opportunity with little opposition by easily winning the SPL.

Now though everything is falling apart. These clubs face serious revenues shortfalls ahead. With low viewing figures the SKY deal will be re-negotiated downwards next season (unless we're back). Sponsors are deserting e.g Clydesdale bank. The Motherwells & Kilmarnocks rely heavily on this money. So staying with the SPL has risks especially as it's in competition the the SFL who now have a stronger hand thanks to Rangers. You need to remember too the SPL is bust. It didn't pay Rangers prize money last season. Preumably it was distributed to the clubs? What happens when CG comes calling for it via the court of session ? or the harper mcleod legal bill rumoured to be £1m? goodnight SPL that's what.

A restructured SFL top league may well result next season but the Liewells, Petries & Thompson must have no input to it

What's the alternative?

Go into administration and lose everything because you have no money to fight it or resign from the SPL with everything intact and apply for SFL membership?

Too much wine perhaps???????

I posted this in the Football longe, but thought I'd put it in here:

New rules on way for SPL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE SPL could embark on a historic change of direction today — if clubs agree to a new voting structure.

Top-flight chairmen like Hibs’ Rod Petrie and Dundee United chief Stephen Thompson will meet at Hampden to discuss plans to overhaul the way decisions are made.

Moves are in the pipeline to bring in a radical new 9-3 voting system.

At the moment 11 clubs must vote in favour of any new motion if it is to be passed.

That always meant both Old Firm clubs could join forces to veto any moves they felt were not in their interests.

A chance to change the 11-1 majority rule exists with Rangers languishing in the Third Division.

Now it will be proposed this system is ripped up and replaced with one which only requires nine votes in favour.

Critics of the current arrangements point to things like SPL TV, which was sunk by Old Firm opposition in 2002 after it became clear it wouldn’t win the required amount of votes, as an example of how undemocratic the current arrangements are.

The change in voting structure was first mooted back in April, but a decision on the issue was delayed because of the developing crisis at Ibrox.

But with that, and the SPL’s TV rights, now settled the chairmen could push through a new dawn this morning.

The SPL will also discuss the issue of Hearts’ late payment of salaries to boss John McGlynn and six players.

They defaulted on wages in September and although they paid up a week later new financial rules then automatically triggered a transfer ban.

They also missed this month’s pay deadline.

SunSport understands Hearts will be punished for the September non- payment at this meeting, with another hearing for the latest one.
