RANGERS have agreed to provide training facilities for Italian giants Juventus when they visit Glasgow next week.

The Turin team will play Celtic in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League tie at Parkhead on Wednesday night.

And after they arrive in the country at the start of the week, they will prepare for the game at Murray Park on Tuesday.

Gers chief executive Charles Green and head of football administration Andrew Dickson met Bianconeri counterparts at the European Clubs Association conference in Qatar last week.

While they were in Doha they agreed to let the Serie A side, currently top of their league by three points from Napoli, work at Auchenhowie.

The Light Blues have been drawn to meet Juve twice before themselves in Europeâ??s premier club tournament in 1978 and 1995.

On the first occasion, goals from Alex MacDonald and Gordon Smith gave the Scots a 2-0 win at Ibrox after a 1-0 first-leg loss in Italy to progress from round one.

Juventus gained their revenge in style 17 years later though, winning 4-1 at the Stadio Delle Alpi with Richard Gough scoring for the visitors.

They were even more comprehensive winners two weeks later as they scored four more goals without reply in Govan on their way to winning the trophy against Ajax in Rome.

Sergio Porrini, who turned out for Juve back then, later went on to play for Rangers and won a Treble with the club under Dick Advocaat in 1999.

RANGERS have thrown open the gates of Murray Park to Celtic’s Euro rivals Juventus.

In an unprecedented step, the Italian giants have been given a shock helping hand ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 showdown.

Ibrox owner Charles Green has stunned Scottish football by agreeing to provide facilities for the Serie A side ahead of the first leg at Parkhead. Green met with leading Juve chiefs at the European Clubs Association conference in Qatar last week.

And he offered to let Antonio Conte prepare his side for the crunch Euro tie at Gers’ training complex, with sessions on Monday and Tuesday.

This is not the first time Gers have helped Celtic’s Euro rivals. In 2002 former Ibrox manager Graeme Souness took his Blackburn Rovers side to Murray Park before a UEFA Cup defeat at Parkhead.

But that was seen as a favour for the man who rejuvenated Gers in the 1980s and had always retained close links with then club owner Sir David Murray.

This latest staggering decision to help foreign opposition is totally unprecedented in Scottish football’s long Euro history.

Gers chief Green hinted towards the arrangement with the Italian club during a Q&A session with supporters in Australia this week.

And the Ibrox club last night confirmed Juve would be granted full use of Murray Park for their Euro build-up.

However Juve chiefs insisted they had NOT yet decided where to base their training.

A Juve spokesman said: “We have not decided the location of our training sessions in Glasgow yet.

“Some options have been considered from the technical staff, but nothing is confirmed.”

Prior to Green’s meeting with Juve chiefs in Doha, the Ibrox club had no links with the Italians at all.

They last played against each other in the 1995/96 Champions League group stages with Gers being thrashed 4-1 and 4-0.

Juve will also train at Celtic Park on Monday night 24 hours ahead of the Euro crunch.

Which is it then? The club's releasing an article making out as if it's happening and the Juve spokesman is saying it hasn't been decided or confirmed.

Not sure if the Sun article is right about it being unprecedented either.

The press will have a field day about us being 'snubbed' by Juve if it doesn't happen, so this should maybe have been kept under wraps.

You can bet that Liewell will have placed calls to Platini in an attempt to have Juve decline the offer.
