UEFA rule on firework charge, fining Celtic for 'improper conduct of supporters' in Champions League Qualifier

THE European governing body has hit the Glasgow club with another fine after supporters set off fireworks during the Champions League Qualifier against Cliftonville.

CELTIC have been fined by UEFA after their supporters set off fireworks in a Champions League qualifier against Cliftonville.

 

The Scottish champions will have to pay 5,000 Euros (£4,200) after being found guilty of breaching article 16.2 of the governing body's regulations.

 

The incident took place in the second qualifying round second leg at Celtic Park on July 23.

 

Neil Lennon's men defeated the Northern Ireland champions and also overcame Elfsborg and Shakhter Karagandy to book their place in the group stages.

 

A statement on UEFA's website confirmed: "Celtic FC have been fined 5,000 Euros after a charge of improper conduct of supporters (setting off of fireworks) in their second qualifying match at home to Cliftonville FC on 23 July 2013."

 

Celtic were fined 25,000 euros (£21,000) for fans' misbehaviour in the Europa League game against Udinese in Italy in December 2011.

 

After the 1-1 draw at the Stadio Friuli, the Parkhead club were charged with "the displaying of a banner of an offensive nature and the setting off of fireworks by supporters".

Uefa say the sanction has been imposed following the initial charge of improper conduct by the club's fans.

Celtic overcame Cliftonville, Elfsborg and Shakhter Karagandy on their way to the Champions League group stages.

Neil Lennon's side have been drawn alongside with Barcelona, AC Milan and Ajax, with their first fixture in Milan on 18 September.

 

So the fine for repeat offences actually goes down???? Given the number of charges that have been raised against us for "offensive" singing/chanting.....UEFA must be paying us now....

how many fines is that now from UEFA ? they must have been fined at least once every season for the past half-a-dozen seasons

Seems a paltry sum...not even a warning that if it happens again they'll play behind closed doors or even face a ban.

Indeed, something that has the potential to seriously physically hurt some innocent gets a 5k fine.... Whilst a few naughty words get a threat of playing in an empty stadium.... UEFA are did dies too it seems

you forget the nice wee cosy relationship THEY have with UEFA. All that wining & dining Platini & co was for a reason - to get UEFA to overlook their misdemeanours and hammer anyone else, especially us. It's working well for them. As I said previously how many UEFA fines is that they've now had in the past few seasons?

UEFA are corrupt. So are FIFA.
