Anyone else and i dont think they'd be blaming refs or opponents. They'd be blaming the individual who lined up the kick for being an idiot.

Lennon says the initial challenge was a booking. Throw in the kick out and thats more than enough reason to send him off (the kick itself is a red).

You cant deliberately kick other players regardless of how hard or how sly you are. If you are seen to kick, throw a hand or motion a head towards an opponent you are walking. Whether or not you connect or how hard you connect.

Why is this being ignored and made out like it is an injustice.

Barcelona break Celtic's wall

Playing at Celtic Park is a bit like chewing screws while the locals bite your ankles. But as the fans have a good song in them everyone loves Celtic, despite them having one of the most horrendous styles of football in Europe, based on putting 10 players in their own box and kicking everything that moves. And even when it’s on the ground and isn’t moving, kick it anyway for good measure. (See Brown on Neymar). In summary, Celtic at home is about the worst enemy Barcelona could face and exactly why the 0-1 triumph of the Catalans is a milestone for the newborn Tata era. It was a game of patience and courage in equal parts.

Celtic

Barcelona

The Barcelona Orchestra played the expected music, in spite of the absence of their virtuoso soloist. Without Messi all the players were ready to step forward to face Celtic slamming and kicking the door shut on them. The kicking part was cheered to the rafters by these fans who sing so nicely.

From Valdés to Neymar, including Bartra - who made it clear someone needs to give an explanation as to why he was used so little last season – all of Barça’s players put in a solid shift in a difficult ground and against a rival who stifle like few others. Winning at Celtic Park gives anyone’s self confidence a boost.

From the start Barcelona controlled the match, showing oodles of patience and hoping that the Scottish bravehearts would eventually tire. Celtic, with Samaras as the only target man, looked to hit on the break and for dead ball situations, while Barcelona moved the ball from side to side looking for the white and green waters to part. The whole of the first half though saw the visitors come up against the Celtic wall.

Quarter of an hour after the restart the Celtic captain Brown lost the plot and having downed Neymar gave him a kick in the kidneys. It was a clear red that should probably also have an additional ban added on, to set an example. The nice singing fans applauded the kick, just like those in the middle ages applauded decapitations.

With one less Celtic had to reinforce their initial plan. To park the bus there’s no real need to have 11. In fact they attacked better and Valdés had to pull out his usual miracle to save Barça with an outstanding stop in 73’ from a Matthews shot. But that was Celtic’s swansong. Two minutes later, Alexis, in his first touch since coming on, sent a cross over from a counter that Cesc headed home perfectly.

From there to the end the Scots increased their levels of violence and Forster augmented his status as a legend, preventing Neymar and Alexis from finishing off the game. The keeper was the last one to man the Celtic wall. He was also the only one not to hand out a kicking.

Did we not witness just a few short weeks ago, Mr Lunny suspend a Hearts' player for 'flicking out' at a CFC player? Did we not also witness TLB in the forefront of the cheering section for the couragious actions of Mr. Lunny in his application of the rules?

Well then ...

Lennon: We will appeal Brown ban

CELTIC will today decide if they wish to appeal the red card shown to Scott Brown for flicking his foot at Neymar during last night's 1-0 defeat to Barcelona.

The Hoops skipper was ordered off by French referee, Stephane Lannoy, and now faces an automatic one-game suspension.

However, if the incident is deemed as violent conduct, Uefa have the option of increasing the ban to up to three matches. Three will rule him out of the back-to-back matches against Ajax and next month's visit to Parkhead of the AC Milan squad.

Neil Lennon believes that the initial foul on Neymar was worthy of a booking, but considers it was excessive to punish him with a red card.Further viewings of the incident will now take place before a decision is taken about an appeal.

Lennon said: "We are looking at appealing the red card. I think we should. It was soft."

Although he is disappointed that his skipper did not manage to avoid such a flashpoint, Lennon believes Neymar's tendency to make the most of any contact was a significant factor in the ref's decision.

Mikael Lustig was booked for a foul on the Brazilian in the first half and Lennon said of the Brown challenge: "I didn't think the initial tackle was a severe one. It's a physical game.

"I don't think Neymar does himself any favours by the way he behaves at times. Our supporters are very respectful of great players.

"Iniesta walked off to a standing ovation from the Celtic support. Neymar, after the incident, got booed every time he touched the ball.

"I don't think I need to justify my defending of my captain. The sending-off was uncalled for."

Lennon was delighted at the way his side played before and after the pivotal moment.

"I don't remember being under immense pressure," he reflected.

"Obviously, they had a lot of the ball. But my keeper had nothing to do for a long stretch of the game. Up until the sending off, we were comfortable. It got stretched late on when we went for it, but Fraser made some excellent saves to keep it at 1-0."

However, the defeats in the San Siro on Match day One and again last night, when at least a point was within touching distance each time, have left Celtic bottom of Group H without a single point.

Lennon did take some consolation from the fact Ajax drew 1-1 with AC Milan, but knows there is no more room for slips.

He said: "The result went for us in Amsterdam. We have to try and take four points from our next two games then beat Milan here as well if we are going to have aspirations about qualifying."

Guest Belt & Braces

I don't subscribe to this belief that if a team fails to score two guilt edge chances, and is on the end of a 1-0 defeat that, that somehow makes them unlucky heroes.

In champions league football you have to take your chances and if you don't, you will be and deserve to be punished for it.

Despite the caveman like tactics employed by Celtic that night, Barcelona did a sound footballing job on them despite the absence of their main outlet.

Its good to see that when Scot Brown is under the microscope of top quality opposition,he is exposed for being all mouth and no trousers. The Hibernian team from which he came was a talented and potential rich squad but even back then, I always thought they carried him for the majority of the time.

Iniesta was simply a master of his trade that night and exposed Brown to be the talentless car chasing mongrel dog he is.

Celtic set to appeal Brown red card

Updated: Friday, 18 Oct 2013 08:03

Celtic's fragile Champions League hopes took a shaking on Thursday when skipper Scott Brown was handed a three-match suspension for his red card against Barcelona earlier this month.

UEFA's control and disciplinary committee decided to give the Scotland midfielder an additional two-match ban on top of the automatic suspension he received for his petulant kick at Neymar during the Hoops' 1-0 defeat at Parkhead, which left them bottom of their group with no points after two matches.

Celtic confirmed they will appeal after describing UEFA's punishment as "excessive".

Brown was always due to miss the visit of Ajax next Tuesday but he will now also sit out the return match in Amsterdam and the home game against AC Milan, unless Celtic are successful in their challenge.

However, should they fail in their bid, UEFA's decision represents a serious blow to Celtic's chances of overcoming defeats in their opening two group games and qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages for a second season running.

In addition to the potential loss of Brown, manager Neil Lennon has major fitness doubts over winger Derk Boerrigter and defender Mikael Lustig for the visit of the Dutch champions, while Adam Matthews and Steven Mouyokolo are long-term absentees.
