GORDON DURIE'S Rangers made it five wins on the trot with a hard fought 2-0 win over Dunfermline.

Goals from Andy Murdoch and Calum Gallagher were enough to secure the points in the team's final match of 2013.

Gallagher was involved early on forcing a shot just wide but he was called back for a handball just inside the area.

Dunfermline's greatest threat through the opening 45 minutes was down their left flank where Faissal El Bakhtaoui was impressive.

He had a shot well saved before McKay's floated free kick was comfortably cleared by the home defence.

The game was certainly moving from end to end in the opening stages and after Allan Smith's drive at one end for Dunfermline, another McKay free kick was headed over the top by Gallagher.

Ramsay's move out to the wing saw him increasingly involved but he couldn't latch on to a McKay through ball and when one powerful run came to nothing there was a sense of frustration from the visiting dugout.

Midway through the half Dunfermline began to assert some dominance in terms of chances without either side gaining the upper hand overall.

Spence shot wide before Bakhtaoui saw a series of efforts saved by Liam Kelly.

Rangers were far livelier straigh after the break with Andy Murdoch picking up a booking in the early minutes of the second half before opening the scoring.

With just five minutes of the half played he cooly slotted home from Ryan sinnamon's cut back.

The opening on the left was created after brilliant persistance from Gallagher who could have gone down under a couple of challenges, but stayed on his feet to release Sinnamon.

Dunfermline almost leveled minutes later when Smith had a similar opportunity to Murdoch's but curled his effort just wide of the upright.

Smith then headed over the top when he found himself unmarked in the box five minutes later as the home side passed up another chance to equalise.

Rangers continued to threaten with Sinnamon breaking again on the left only to finish the move with a poor cross.

McKay then shot wide of the post as Rangers increased the pressure from a series of corners and Telfer dragged a disappointing effort wide.

Declan O'Kane came closer for the home side with a glancing header wide of the post before Ryan Ferguson blazed over from a poor clearance with 20 minutes left.

Danny Stoney came close to adding to Rangers' advantage with a little over 15 minutes left when his fine drive from 20 yards cracked the post.

Gallagher added security late on with a fine solo effort with just three minutes left.

Rangers: Kelly; Halkett, Gibson, Gasparotto, Sinnamon; Murdoch, Telfer, Ramsay; Stoney, Gallagher, McKay (Mills 62)

Subs: Smith, Ogen, Wilson, Hardie

Another good win for the young lads!

They seem to be on a wee bit of a run just now, Durie is doing a fine job, I remember all the posts on here shouting from the roof tops about him being just a '' job for the boys'' appointment!.
