Just happened by now ... well, I would - rather impartially - say that this time around the best team won the tournament. Berlin was indeed bouncing, the Jumbo that carried the World Champions cruised over the town for a while, including above the "Fan Mile" which was packed from 6 a.m. - the team arrived there at 1 p.m.. They had a wee party there ... all 400k of them ...

I love watching Germany play. Thoroughly deserved, though also a touch saddened Messi didn't get the WC win his career should probably merit.

I have to admit when they are on form, the sharpness, accuracy and intelligence of their play can be breathtaking and they play more like a club side that has grown up together than a national team. They are already the best German team ever imho (and that includes the 74 side) and could potentially go on to be one of the greatest international teams.

I read an article last week about how the German FA completely reviewed the German national game after Germany 2006.

Apparently they discovered the team were holding the ball for 2.4 seconds per player before passing. They determined this was too long and that they should work on shortening that time. By the time 2010 came about they had reduced the ball retention to 1.4 seconds per pass.

It is that level of detail which is needed to become a successful nation.

The Germans, when on form, are breathtaking. I am not sure I include the game against Brazil in that - difficult to determine if Germany were THAT good or if Brazil were really just that bad. Probably both - but some of the intelligence from the Germans that night was stunning.

Wonder how long our guys hold the ball before passing?
