Clyde Cup Date Set

Written by Andrew Dickson

RANGERS will host Clyde in their second round Petrofac Training Cup tie at Ibrox on Monday, August 18 at 7.35pm.

The date for the match has been confirmed this afternoon and just as the first round contest with Hibernian, it will be shown live on television by BBC Alba.

Gers progressed to the last 16 on Tuesday night thanks to a 2-1 extra-time victory over the Hibess, with Nicky Law grabbing the winner after Lewis Macleod’s opener.

Progressing sees them come up against former Light Blues captain Barry Ferguson, now manager of the Broadwood side.

Of course, Ally McCoist’s men faced the Bully Wee in the Third Division two seasons ago and won all four clashes with them.

The last time the clubs came together in a cup tie was in the 2005/06 League Cup, with Rangers winning 5-2 in 120 minutes.

Tickets will be available in due course from the Rangers Ticket Centre or online via the official club website at rangers.co.uk.

Alternatively, you can call the ticket hotline on 0871 702 1972 to purchase. Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras.

Another game live on television.

At least the commentary won't be objectionable, or if it is, we'll never know.

I think maybe Alba covered all of our Challenge Cup games last season as well, did they not?

EPL* at the weekend? Check!

CL on Tuesday and Wednesday? Check!

EL on Thursday? Check!

Hey, let's play the "minnows" stuff on Monday (and Friday)! Check!

How often have they managed to thwart our home game (attendances) with lovely Friday (more often than not non-televised) or Monday fixtures by now?

*Yep, there actually is a EPL on Monday night too, Hull vs Chelsea at 9 pm.

To be fair, the 'Petrofac Training Cup' is the shittiest of shit competitions.

... we had various League and Cup games moved to Fridays and Mondays last season for no obvious reason and not even TV coverage, usually home games. One may argue whether this was and is intentional and done to keep our home attendance figures low. True or not, that was and is the consequence.

The reason is patently obvious.

We're actually having to pay for the privilege of having our games televised same as the two previous seasons.

Good, I cannot make this. Even with my seat valid for it, I am happy :)

Happy not to make a Rangers game. Probably as sad as it gets. Maybe you find someone who's got no ticket and for whom the straits are not too narrow and give him your ticket?
