Club Statement On Play Off Tickets

Recommended Posts

Shows you the very low calibre of those running our game, Topping and his cronies are sitting dead in the water with that pathetic irony laden statement.

All we need now is the club or the RST to issue a broadside, that will sink his hypocrisy.

Anybody know how much money ALL clubs participating in the play-offs are getting for their games being shown live on BT Sports or is all this money already secured by the spfl without any 'extra' going towards the teams taking part?

A mighty £8250 per team game iirc.

If that's correct it's a total disgrace. We desperately need to get rid of these muppets Doncaster & Regan and bring leaders into the running of Scottish football who play hard ball because the idiots currently running our game seem to be systematically destroying it.

Thompson has his tuppence worth on free entry to play offs

HIBERNIAN'S decision to allow season-ticket holders in for free during last season's play-offs does not set a precedent for other clubs to follow suit, Scottish Professional Football League board member Stephen Thompson has insisted.

The SPFL has taken a strong stance on the issue of play-off income, telling clubs they must abide by the rules they themselves created, after Rangers and Motherwell revealed they had no plans to charge season-ticket holders.

Rangers cited the example of Hibs, who went unpunished for doing the same thing last season, but the SPFL believes those circumstances were unique.

Dundee United chairman Thompson told Press Association Sport: "Hibs started selling season tickets in March 2013, two or three months before there was any merger between the league bodies.

"So the vast majority of season-ticket holders would have purchased them based on getting all the league games. There was no guarantee at that stage that there was going to be play-offs.

"One year further down the line, everyone knows what the rules are. Everyone knew the play-offs were in place. People say there's a precedent, but circumstances are significantly different."

The SPFL released a statement entitled "respect for democracy is vital for Scottish football" and Thompson stressed the rules were brought in for the general good.

"When we merged the league bodies, £1.5million was given up by the top-six clubs," he said.

"That cost my club about £100,000 last season. We didn't do it for our own interests.

"The old First Division champions got about £60,000 and the Championship winners now get about £340,000. The clubs looked at the bigger picture.

"Everyone voted for the play-offs. All 42 clubs voted for this set of rules in June 2013 when we merged the league bodies.

"Not everybody was happy with everything but everyone did it for the greater good of the game."

Hibs recently failed in a bid to half the levy on play-off income to 25 per cent.

"We had more debate in the last 10 days or so and I think only three clubs voted to change what we currently have," Thompson said.

"It was a deal for everyone and you can't just pick and choose what you like and what you don't like. It's a democratic process. Clubs having a go at the SPFL are having a go at themselves because we are all the SPFL."

Hibs had argued that a cut was viable because the Scottish Football Association was funding parachute payments to clubs relegated via the Scottish Premiership play-offs for the first two years. Hibs got £500,000 and will get a further £250,000 if they fail to go straight back up.

But Thompson said: "We could still have to pay it back in future. That has been debated for two years and as it stands the SFA position is they still want the £1.5million back. The chairman of Hibs (Rod Petrie) sits on the SFA board and he might know something we don't but we have to act on the situation as it stands before us.

"One or two of the clubs have pointed out what happens further down the line when we have to pay £750,000 in parachute payments? What happens when smaller clubs are involved in the play-offs? Should we not take some upside because there's going to be a downside further down the line?"

The SPFL earlier argued that "respect for democracy and sticking to the rules agreed by all of its clubs is essential if the game in Scotland is to thrive" after writing to all clubs who may be involved in the top-flight play-offs reminding them that the levy must be paid in full.

I'm telling you: 1p per ticket!

It would be a brilliant GIRFUY, but we're going to need to get as much money in as possible in order to even have a sniff at covering the cost of staging the home games. The policing, security, stewarding and general staffing costs are astronomical at Ibrox.

Yes, but the Board have already suggested allowing ST holders in for free, so they can obviously cover it.

When they suggested that, they were probably expecting about (or even more than) 10k Rangers fans + the away support to help cover the costs.
