Brothers jailed for brutal attack...

...in aftermath of Celtic v Rangers match.

TWO brothers were jailed for their part in a brutal attack on a dad-of-three on the day of an Old Firm match.

Grant Murray. 20, who was convicted of attempting to murder 38-year-old James Martin by repeatedly kicking and stamping on him as he lay motionless on the ground, was sentenced to eight years detention.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that Mr Martin's jaw was split in two by the force of the blows.

His brother Graham Murray, 30, was convicted of assaulting Mr Martin by punching him on the head and causing him to fall to the ground and assaulting his son Jordan Martin by punching him on the head and body and pursuing him.

He was sentenced to 11 months in prison.

The assaults took place at High Street, Newarthill, Motherwell, on February 1 after an Old Firm League Cup-semi-final.

The sickening violence was witnessed by Mr Martin's son, 18-year-old Jordan Martin.

Jordan told the court that he called 999 and then flagged down a passing car which was driven by his aunt Pamela Hughes who gave first aid until an ambulance arrived.

As Ms Hughes tended her brother, Grant Murray shouted at her: "It was me, it was me. What are you going to do?" The court heard that minutes earlier Murray's brother Graham Murray, 30, had punched Mr Martin to the ground.

Graham Murray was convicted of assaulting Mr Martin by punching him on the head and causing him to fall to the ground.

His brother Grant Murray was also found guilty of assaulting Jordan Martin by punching him on the head and body and pursuing him.

Not to be rude, but does it matter which team they support? Clearly utter arseholes. It also isn't indicative of the wider support of either team.

I know what your saying, but it's glaringly obvious that the author of that piece has deliberately gone out of his/her way not to make mention of the victim and culprits' allegiances.

Maybe these past few years have turned me paranoid but I somehow doubt the folks at the times would be so keen to attribute this to general "Old Firm violence" if there was a Rangers fan to be named and shamed.

No,it doesn't. However, the reporting of it does matter, IMHO. You think if the perpetrators were Rangers fans it wouldn't be highlighted ? It is typical of the red top media in Scotland to report it this way when the victim is a Rangers fan.

Not to be rude but what has this got to do with the magic hats plans to hump Morton on Saturday?
