Charles Green legal costs appeal today (Friday 29th)

Recommended Posts

FORMER Rangers chief executive Charles Green has reportedly lodged £50,000 with a court.

The cash is expected to be used to help pay the club's legal costs if his case fails.

Insiders confirmed Green had lodged the money, according to the Daily Record.

The businessman wants the club to pay his legal bills, which could amount to £500,000, in the upcoming Rangers trial.

Green says Rangers agreed to provide him with legal cover as part of a severance deal before he left in 2013.

Judge Lord Doherty rejected his claim in November last year.

Green is now appealing that decision. Arguments are set to be heard at the Court of Session on Friday but a ruling is not expected to be made until a later date.

Green faces charges along with former Ibrox owner Craig Whyte and four others.

They are accused of being involved in a multi-million pound fraud over the club's acquisition.

Rangers QC now going through their case.

Nothing much to pick out of this so far - other than the judges laughing at an assertion from Green's QC that Rangers, as a club, are a figment of the imagination.

Statement from Green in 2012:

"Lord Nimmo Smith has said that Rangers FC is a recognisable entity which continued in existence notwithstanding the change in ownership. He also stated that Rangers FC, the club, includes its owner and operator. The commission has in effect ruled that Rangers and its history did not die on June 14 despite numerous reports to the contrary. This means that Rangers FC and its owner, i.e. me and my consortium, remained a member of the SPL even after the change of ownership. The bemusing part is that no one at the SPL or SFA appeared to realise that. The SPL made the club (including its owner and operator) reapply to be a member of a league that the commission says it was in already"

I'm not quite sure what part of his court case hinges on this, but I don't see how he can be taken seriously with this line at all.
