Waghorn back in 2-3 weeks

Recommended Posts

I thought it wasn't so bad and of the thinking that he probably did the right thing: felt the bad twinge and went straight off for immediate treatment. Last season he played on and I think he just made it a lot worse.

MARTYN Waghorn faces just two to three weeks on the sidelines as Mark Warburton revealed his injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

A scan this week showed the striker has picked up a minor hamstring tear after pulling up against Hamilton on the Premiership’s opening day.

The 25-year-old missed the title run in last season after knee ligament damage and the manager admits to relief at this latest news.

Warburton said: “Martyn had a scan this week and hopefully it is just a grade one or two tear we are looking at, so two to three weeks, fingers crossed, which is good news.

“It is a relief in a way because straight after the incident you saw the distress he was in in terms of the injury and it looked bad at the time.

“The medical team looked after him well, he’s scanned well, presented well so fingers crossed it’s far less worse than first expected.”

Elsewhere defensive duo Danny Wilson and Lee Wallace look to have recovered from the sickness bug that kept them out of Tuesday’s League Cup win.

There is also good news for Josh Windass and Matt Crooks while Jason Holt’s substitute appearance against Peterhead signals full recovery for the 23-year-old from an ankle issue,

The manager updated Rangers TV:

“There was a bug and Danny Wilson and Lee Wallace had it which affected their involvement on Tuesday, Danny had an upset stomach.

“So touch wood, they had a day off yesterday and they are back in good shape now. They’ll both be available for the weekend.

“Josh Windass is getting there, it was more of a long standing problem he had, a neural type problem but he’s seen a chiropractor and that has been resolved. He will be back with us very shortly.

“Likewise Matt Crooks is training really well and probably less than a week away from joining the squad for full training.

“Matt has been out for a while so he will have to get his levels up but once he is back with the squad then we are counting down. Let’s see how it goes, there is no time limits on it.

“It was great to see Jason back, you saw the intensity and quality of his play.

“He had a niggling injury for two and a half weeks so it was important to get his return right because he was a bit nervous about it.

“He is back in good shape, trained really well on Monday, he’ll train again today (Thursday) and we’re delighted to welcome him back.”
