And they won’t face any further punishment for the their red cards in Russia on a technicality. Section 48.04 of UEFA’s Disciplinary Laws and Procedures states “Exceptionally, all yellow cards and pending yellow card suspensions expire on completion of the play-offs.” Because both were sent packing for two yellow cards it means they won’t face any further punishment from UEFA. A major boost to Rangers fortunes Both players played a huge part in Rangers run to the group stages. Having them available for the tricky tie at El Madrigal is a major boost to the team’s chances in Spain. Morelos is particular was a key part of the Gers qualification efforts. The Colombian’s ability to lead the line and run the channels can be invaluable away from home. Flanagan is also a solid option on either flank as full back. Not only new additions to squad Morelos and Flanagan won’t be the only players coming back into the team against Villarreal. There will also be a few new faces in this Rangers squad for the Europa League campaign. Croatian international Borna Barisic, centre backs Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley and Albanian winger Eros Grezda will all add depth, quality and competition for places. Rangers will have a strength in depth they haven’t had in a long time and it will help them challenge on all fronts. Yes, they were yellow cards but red cards were also shown. edit 48.01 As a rule, a player who is sent off the field of play is suspended for the next match in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Super Cup).
