Rangers Rangers are refusing to back down in their battle with the SFA over the Daniel Candeias red card saga. The club have written to the governing body expressing their anger at Willie Collum’s explanation of his decision to send off the player against St Mirren. And Rangers will continue to fight for a change to the rules which currently mean they have no right to appeal the player’s booking. The club were furious after the SFA took the unusual step of detailing Collum’s reasons for issuing the second yellow to Candeias. Hampden officials revealed on Wednesday that Candeias was carded for goading St Mirren star Anton Ferdinand by blowing kisses at him while celebrating Alfredo Morelos’ injury time clincher in the 2-0 win. But Rangers insist Collum couldn’t possibly have seen the player making a gesture towards Ferdinand but are at pains to point out they don’t believe the referee is biased against the club. The Ibrox club claim the ‘underlying issues’ noted in the club’s original statement on the matter referred to Collum impetuousness and general competence. A Rangers spokesman said: “I can confirm that Rangers has sent a formal letter of complaint about the referee’s performance.” Insiders at Hampden claim senior members of the SFA hierarchy are in agreement with Rangers and their stance over the row. Knowing the Hampden beaks, I’m surprised the SFA didn’t charge him with sexual harassment. But seriously, what is the game coming to when Candeias finds himself sent-off for a wind-up? You can bet big Anton hasn’t lost any sleep over it. He’s had worse aimed at him.
