Netherlands- England U21

A case of a crap game which Engerland thought they had won but the Dutch scored in the 89th minute with a goal that verged on dangerous play. A super overhead kick from Celtic target Maceo Rigters. Ruud Gullit stated after the game if it was a Spanish or Italian team the defenders would have been rolling around on the ground holding their heads to get the decision but the English are too proud or naive to do that.(discussion?) It amounted in a fantastic penalty shoot-out which also caused a spectacle. After all the other players had taken a penalty Taylor of England said he wouldn't take one as he was injured. This upset Foppe de Haan the Dutch coach as Taylor had finished the game. De Haan marched onto the field to tell the ref that Taylor had not taken a penalty. After a heavy discussion Taylor slotted the penalty in the corner of the goal.

With the English shooting first the Dutch managed to hold their nerves and go on to win 13-12.

They will meet Serbia in the final.

Something else the English won't win for a while, superb!

By the way Rigters did F-all the whole game until he scored in the 89 min. It was a beauty of a goal but i was not impressed with him to be honest. His constant refusal to run into wide positions meant the Dutch had to throw in high balls from the second line. Celtic can have him for me.

Uefa will be glad that England didn't get through to the final after all the bad blood between them and Serbia in their previous game. Though with the number of coloured players in the Dutch team, Serbia will have their work cut out keeping their racism in check.

So will the Dutch supporters!!!!

They are not welcoming the next batch of players. They were glad to get rid of the Davids Seedorf ++++ time

13-12 on pens - that must have been great to watch.

Yep it was exiting stuff to the end but to be honest the game itself was crap.

It was only the last few minutes and the penalty shoot-out that were interesting. Even the extra time was played in England's half as they only had 10 men but the Dutch could have played 30 hours extra time and not scored.

England played the last 20 mins of ET with NINE men Pete - Onouha had to go off injured and Pearce had already used their 3 subs. Technically they still had 10 on the pitch but apparently Stephen Taylor could barely walk !

Yes, true Craig and as i said the Dutch could have played all night and not scored. The guy that went off looked less injured than Taylor to be honest, as he was hardly limping, i couldn't believe he went off. All in all i think England should have won in the 90 mins but over the whole a penalty shoot out was about right and that is always a lottery. The winner won.
