How has he? I'd have preferred a defender that could defend. Anything Tav done here, is replaceable by signing a competent goalscorer fs. His personal accolades are good, what's he done for Rangers? Where's the trophies?

In my lifetime Rangers Captains have been like Gough Ferguson (Barry) etc. Tav should have been sold at least two seasons ago. The fact Martin has come out and backed him has alarm bells ringing already Martin was hardly going to come out and let the world know, after one day in the job, that Tav would be dropped as Captain and sold. Maybe Martin was showing a bit of respect to Tavernier who has played about 350 times for us. Edited 9 hours ago by Gazza_8

Tavernier is a below average defender with an astonishingly good attacking flair and an ability to score goals from open play as well as by competently taken penalties and brilliantly struck freekicks. Rangers have had their money’s worth out of him. I would still have preferred an above average defender. He’s not a good captain. He maybe only got the job for lack of anyone better. Goldson wouldn’t have been great at it either and I can’t think of anyone else.

Tavernier didn't collectively add anything to Rangers, anything celebrated about him is personal accolades. I.e how many goals he scored as a defender. He is symbolic of a failed era. I'd trade all his personal accolades for a Rangers team that won trophies, that's just my opinion.

Good job we never got shot of JG eh.....

And from what I've seen from GS to Walter Smith, Dick Advocaat, Alex McLeish, PLG, Walter again, McCoist etc. Tavernier is the worst Rangers captain I've come across that is just utterly connected to failure. The recent years after Steven Gerrard (after getting ourselves established and winning the top league again) have been catastrophic, absolute failure.

So, mentioning those managers, maybe it's down to managers / coaches / boards that we have been unsuccessful since our return to top flight and not Tav?
