I said European football is one of the areas we need success before we can go further.

 

Success in the other areas will have more impact.

Yes pointless in the sense that despite our unmatched, herculean European success, we are not were we want to be. We have not reached our long term objectives.

It could be argued that despite our EL "success" that we're further away from reaching our long-term objectives than we were when Pedro was manager.

 

But, that's not "absolute" failure.
