  1. That's what the second half of 2006/07 was about - shoring up the defence and steadying the ship. That was two seasons ago. As for Scotland - who cares.
  2. According to Smith I'm not one of the "fair minded people" because I criticise Murray's running of the club. By coming on internet sites and criticising Smith I have "ideas above my station". I didn't want Walter to sign Kenny Miller so I'm "living in the dark ages". While Rangers fans are being hammered from all sides, Murray comes out and all but says it's all our own fault. Walter says what he's told to. Smith is entirely complicit in Rangers fans being treated like lepers in Scotland today. As for the post-Kaunas spending, while it might be Murray's money, it's Smith who decides what it's spent on.
  3. You said it. Surely that can't be blamed on Murray. Walter runs the football side of the business and delivered a result that had P45 written all over it in any industry. No idea, that may be the case. However that doesn't get round the figure of 2.6m for 4 starts. Some of Walter's buys were as clear an example of stupidity as you could find. Velicka for one. £1m ain't no drop in the ocean for Rangers anymore. Smith runs scared of shite teams. That, and his barely disguised contempt for the fans, which along with Murray's hatred of us has contributed to fan-club relations being at their worst since as far back as I can remember. That counts as a decline of the club in my book.
  4. Yeah, big big win yesterday. I've reached the stage of the season where I'm counting down the games, and every away win in particular is a priceless triumph. IMO we played one of our toughest games of the run-in yesterday.
  5. While I blame Murray for his disastrous decision to leave transfer business until after Kaunas, ultimately it was Walter who played Dailly, McCulloch and Adam in midfield and played for the draw in Kaunas, which got us into this sorry mess. I get the feeling some fans just buried Kaunas in the recesses of their minds and hoped it would go away. When people said there would be repercussions, they weren't just saying it for a headline. I'd agree with that, however... I would suggest that, given the financial situation wasn't great anyway, to spend £2.6m on Edu and get 4 starts in return is a pretty dreadful bit of business as it stands. While he was reckless in releasing funds we didn't have on what was essentially a post-Kaunas PR exercise, it's not Murray who went out and spotted the list of players you mention. Would I be right in thinking Arsene Wenger has in the past refused offers of transfer cash from his chairman because what he sees on the market is no better than his current regulars? I blame them both. They're two peas in a pod when it comes to the decline of our club.
  6. Scumbag should be embarrassed taking up any "new role". The man who did everything in his power to see us fucked over last season. I had to go through my MSP to get a reply from him as to why the chimps were allowed to spit on the graves of our war dead in November. I've since binned his letter, but the basic jist of it was: "Stop wasting my time you orange bastard".
  7. I'm just back from the rugby so have missed a lot of today's action but have to say I feel a bit better after learning the bheasts played against 10 men for most of the game. Two goals for Scott Brown, that'll be the POTY in the bag
  8. I'm very close to agreeing with you, except by your logic we have to assume three points against them. If Walter plays for 1-0 wins until the end of the season, I'd hate to see it bite him on the arse.
  9. Celtic fans have a habit of calling teams like Kilmarnock and Motherwell (no, I don't know either) "mini huns". Well, I'd have a different description for St Mirren...
  10. I hope you're right, but with us and them on equal points and only 11 games to go now it's a distinct possibility. I think we've reached the stage where the next points dropped by either team could be fatal. Thing is, I'm not nearly as confident of beating them at Ibrox as I would have been during Walter's first 12 months.
  11. Can't disagree with anything there MF. It's really starting to get on my tits this myth being constantly peddled by Murray and his pals in the press about Rangers' current woes being a direct result of the global financial downturn. That being the case, why have Celtic not announced they'll be trimming their squad to 20 for next season? Who falls for this line? No, our current financial difficulties are a direct result of Kaunas and Walter pissing millions of pounds we didn't have up a wall. Those who still come to Walter's defence over Kaunas may not be so willing when the disaster-in-waiting that is season 2009/10 unfolds. I feel exactly as I did towards the end of the 2002/03, as it dawned on us all that whether we won the league or not, the following season would be traumatic and there was nothing we could do. You see it's all cycles with Murray (slash and burn indeed), at one time cycles of success. Now, well the man is steadily destroying us.
  12. Bollocks. Doesn't sound too bad though. Who comes in, McCulloch? EDIT:- Just remembered McCulloch's injured. Maybe move Davis in alongside Barry, with Aaron left and Whittaker right? Davis right, Naismith left? Lafferty on the left? Problem is I can't think of a straight swap for Mendes other than Edu, who Smith won't play and who was mince against Forfar anyway.
  13. From what I've heard about him, there will be no doubt whatsoever who young Jordan will be cheering on tomorrow
  14. When was this? Because if it was uttered at any point during 2007/08 then colossal doesn't do justice to the magnitude of the irony.
  15. Why do they have to open with "The Rangers player involved in one of Scotland' most tragic football accidents" and not "Rangers record-breaking goalscorer..." I can't think of Sam English without rage building inside me over the conduct of that scumbag Maley. Nice gesture from Coleraine though.
  16. Sorry who wrote that, Spiers? Damn, I was going to read it as well . . .
  17. The EXACT first words I just muttered to myself. I can see the split coming round and, oh, what do you know, Celtic with a home fixture against Motherwell. As I've said in other threads, after last season Liewell will have some dirty tricks up his sleeve if the bheasts can't regain top spot.
  18. Ah shit yeah. To paraphrase big Dado Prso: "Midori is for women, real men drink milk."
  19. the who and the what now
  20. Congratulations to Man City who just went through 4-3 on agg. against Copenhagen. Think they're playing our friends Aalborg in the next round.
  21. Three new teams will join the Highland League next season. Turriff Utd, Formartine Utd and Strathspey Thistle were all voted in last night with Banks O' Dee missing out. Personally I think it's great news. It's been far too long since the Highland League had 18 teams (15 years), and for geographical reasons I'm glad it was Banks O' Dee who missed out. One Aberdeen team is quite enough and there's already too many Aberdeenshire teams. The league is crying out for a Highland team. Since losing Inverness Thistle, Caledonian and Ross County it's effectively become an Aberdeenshire League.
  22. And here's me having made the effort to keep the anti-Walter stuff to the Walter Smith thread
  23. Like them, really like them. That Boyd pic will become iconic IMO, just like Gazza with arms aloft at the Piggery and Durrant after scoring in Marseille. Who says the League Cup's worthless? What a moment.
  24. Yep, and then it's one less away game for us and one less home game for them. Do the bheasts have the bottle for this championship? I can smell their fear.
  25. There's only one way we can win this title, and that's by going on an extended winning run. It's literally years since we put Celtic under that kind of constant pressure. They may have the experience when it comes to winning titles, but they don't have the experience of reacting to us winning week in week out when they need us to drop points while staying in touch themselves. I do expect them to improve on their dismal current form. Definitely prefer the look of our run-in to the split, but we're bound to have a crazy result somewhere down the line. And you can bet your last dime that the SPL will do everything in their power to make things tough for us post-split. Not paranoia, merely past experience. We certainly have the quality on the park to win it, and Celtic let's face it are honking. However not for the first time in recent seasons, I foresee issues other than football coming to the fore. If Celtic are in trouble as March turns into April, "points deduction" will replace TFS as the latest anti-Rangers campaign. Not that points deduction would ever come to pass, but brace yourself for this year's wave of faux-offendedness from the bheasts. If we extend our lead on Saturday, expect James McCarthy's name to hit the papers for non-footballing reasons. Having successfully cheated their way to last year's title using every dirty trick in the book, I've never wanted a league title so badly. Justice must be done. Here's to Number 52
