  1. He'll probably play him on the LEFT . Although he's nearly 33 and must have lost a yard or two, he's Rangers through and through and would be well worth a short term deal. As with Papac, agree he should have been offered a two year deal.
  2. This additional information was provided by the UK agent today: I should also have pointed out that in Dortmund the vast majority of the main standing area at the home end is an open terrace and does not use rail seats, as being proposed by Neil Doncaster. In Dortmund they only use rail seats at the very back of that stand, the rest is one huge terrace ... which is clearly NOT what is being proposed. In Hoffenheim the away end is 'pure' rail seats, i.e. compactly arranged along every row. In the home end they remove several of the rows for domestic games to give a semi-terrace appearance ... but that again is not what is being proposed for Scotland / England. It's quite important that this message is got across. People should not look at pictures of open terraces at some German grounds and mistake that for what is now being proposed for the UK under the term 'safe standing'. What Neil Doncaster has said the SPL will entertain is standing areas fitted with rail seats.
  3. Yes I was wrong about that, see new thread.
  4. I thought it might be best to go straight to the horses mouth so to speak and then start a new thread with the following which is from the UK agent for the "railway system". How the SPL / clubs choose to sell tickets will be down to them. In Germany (and I would suggest that this is the most practical way) your ticket simply says 'Block A', 'Block B' etc. with the number of tickets issued for each block being equal to the number of seat spaces (or double that if they use the two-step configuration). Strict barcode access control systems and stewarding checks ensure that only people with tickets for the relevant block gain access to it. The German equivalent of the Green Guide also specifies the maximum capacity of any one block. Clubs could issue numbered tickets, but as the poster mentions it would not be easy to manage ... and would defeat one of the benefits of standing, i.e. of being able to move if you find yourself next to someone you don't like and/or being able to find a space with more room if you are attending with friends that don't normally go with you. For the club there is also a benefit in having 'unreserved' spaces in that it will encourage fans who are keen on getting their favourite place to turn up early ... and that means more pies being sold! (If the clubs use their initiative, they'll have vendors wandering around the standing area pre-match, so that fans who don't want to move and lose their good spot are also tempted to buy stuff). Hope that answers the question. Bottom line is: it's a blank sheet of paper and it will be for the clubs and the league to define their own rules and practices.
  5. If my understanding is correct and I can verify this; you actually get your own standing area, as you say in front of the seat number, though quite how that would be "policed" is anyone's guess.
  6. In the SPL the home team keeps the entire gate receipts. The sponsors money and the TV money go into a pot and the vast bulk of it is split up amongst the SPL clubs according to league positions but the top 2 get a disproportionate amount. A small amount goes to the teams in the lower leagues.
  7. Whoever is second gets 1%-2% less; the deal is predicated on the old firm finishing first and second.
  8. Judging by the figures you quote, I'd say (a) I know your lecturer and (b) he is talking about the SPL proposals.
  9. I think it's nearer £15m than £10m but might depend on one or two teams qualifying (and worth less as the Euro weakens).
  10. Even at 41? Yes I know you are joking!
  11. I started off thinking that this is a no brainer; Miller is easily the better player and showed in his second spell that he was every inch the goal scorer as well as a goal maker. Then I got to thinking about ages: Boyd at 28 should be at his peak; Miller almost 32 probably past his. Also Jelavic & Boyd or Jelavic and Miller? So I surprised myself by voting for Boyd and making it a 10-10 tie.
  12. Getting safe standing on the agenda was one thing an Under 21 League might be quite another
  13. Sorry I should have realised that.
  14. NO, nothing like it. The total "cake" is just over £15M , although it will go up a bit with the new TV deal. The top two get approx 33% betwen them. So the winners get about £2.5m+ a few bob and the second place gets £2.5m-a few bob. Sorry it took a day to get back to the OP.
  15. Me neither Zappa. My understanding is that it has been held that The Sash is not sectrian but the new law says nothing about sectarian songs just offensive behaviour. Trouble is that one man's traditional or historic song (with or without add-ons) is another man 's offensive behaviour, so best avoid them all IMHO. 500 up - see I moved into the Reserves, I'll need to push for the reserve league to be reinstated!
  16. Sorry Zappa, not at liberty to answer that one but don't bet against it.
  17. The SPL, Rangers and Celtic have all the info, I've been pushing at an open door all year. We'll see if anything comes of it. I have afunny feeling that Celtic might be first.
  18. Strictly speaking that 's not correct. Offensive behaviour is defined as "expressing hatred against a religious group (or individual), a social or cultural group with a perceived religious affiliation, a group defined by reference to colour, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, sexual orinentaion, transgender identity or disability. Note that political groups are not mentioned. However, there is a catch all "other behaviour which a reasonable person would be likely to consider offensive", which may well be used to charge persons who sing the type of songs to which you refer. Songs in support of proscribed terrorist organisations are considered offensive. AND always remember that the offensive behaviour has to be such that is it likely to incite public disorder. The new SPL Rules go further by saying that songs in opposition to proscribed terrorist groups are regarded as "unacceptable conduct"; this is specifically meant to catch songs like BMG (which I personally don't claim to know or understand). So my advice, for what it's worth, is sing songs that specifically support the team, there are plenty of them.
  19. This is the system I referred to tonight on Sportsound.
  20. This a very interesting point and one that I have made. BMG does not appear to fall foul of the legislation but it DOES fall foul of the new SPL Rules
  21. Would the socks have been black with two red hoops?
  22. 0.18 seconds! http://www.sherv.net/drunk.santa-emoticon-1534.html or http://www.smileyvault.com/thumbnails.php?album=344
  23. Nice point, but we're still 4 points up.
  24. Great. Like this one the best Could we get a drunk Santa and/or a drunk santa in charge of the reindeers?
  25. May Day Madness!
