  1. You all are a bunch of arseholes :D Well, the SPFL are anyway....

    December 16th - I don't fly back home till December 22nd

March 17th - I will have flown back to Bermuda on March 12th

April 7th - Family will be out here in Bermuda for Easter break

I am destined to not get to one of these dinners

Of course that's entirely deliberate on the part of the organiser.....

  2. As there have been a number of comments on the next dinner, I've had a look at dates.

The most successful dinner to date was in January 2016 but I think it's fair to say that that owed a lot to the special guests Willie Johnston & Colin Stein.

The last two attempts at an end of season dinner didn't work out very well because of the difficulty of not knowing the play-off and post-split fixture dates.

There have also been some suggestions of making it an end of season awards dinner for player of the year, prediction league winner etc. However, that would again mean the same issue of not knowing the post-split fixtures until the month before. I didn't think that would be a big issue but there is no doubt it did affect the attendance last time.

If we were to have a mid season dinner, the only dates that look feasible are Dec 9 v Ross County or Dec 16 v St Johnstone; I think both are likely to remain as Sat 3.00pm fixtures but that can't be guaranteed. We don't have a Sat home game in Jan 18.

Looking at end of season the obvious dates are Mar 17 v Kilmarnock or the last scheduled home game on Apr 7 v Dundee; again one would think these will be Sat 3.00pm.

Personally I think that the last scheduled home game is the obvious choice but it would rule out end of season awards unless there was a cut off imposed.

    Thoughts?

I'll put up a poll if there is a divergence of opinion.

I would propose to go back to La Fiorentina who all present rated highly in terms of food and service and they are also due a shot at a larger attendance in view of the low numbers last time.

  3. Yes it would have been. Thanks and hopefully to the end of season Gersnet dinner.

Seems I was about a minute away in Brochettes et Cie Luxembourg, 2/4 Rue de la Poste, just along from the McDonalds, having a burger and beer before the match.

I was in the square earlier when there were a lot of fans about and if I'd known you were there I certainly would have walked round or sent you a text.

    Just after 5.00pm

I've got the message about the end of season dinner.

  4. The game is on Sunday the 30th which make sit a bit awkard, as I assume that most would want to be back for work on the Monday.

Sheffield City Centre is 90% booked out already on the Sat night and Sheffield as a whole 77% according to booking.com. The only thing other than dorms I can see for the Sat night under £100 is the Ibis budget Sheffield Arena, "situated a 15-minute drive from Sheffield city centre," which isn't much good at £92. Otherwise you're into the £100-£200 range and up. Staying the Sunday night would be a lot better, plenty of accommodation well under £100 e.g. Ibis £35!

It's a 500 mile round trip. I'd be willing to drive down on Sat back Sun or Sun back Mon. In my diesel I get 50mpg+ so the diesel wouldn't be more than £50; so £10-£12 depending on 4/5 sharing.

I wouldn't be keen to drive down on Sun morning and back on Sun night; but I'd consider it given the extortionate hotel costs for the Sat night.

It looks like a 9-seater mini bus as an example is about £60/day and I'm guessing about £100 for the petrol; so that would be about £220 maybe £250; roughly £25-£30 pp. on a 2 day trip.

Train can be done in one day on the Sun, currently £91.50 or going Sat back Sun for slightly less.

So at the moment you'd be looking at about £100-£150 for a Sat/Sun or well under £100 driving in my car or a mini bus; twice that by train inc accommodation.

Day trip in a mini bus wouldn't be much more than a tenner each say £15 max; shared driving presumably and no drinking in the bus!

    Just some preliminary figures.

    Thoughts?

  5. Some may say i don't have many but thought I throw this in?

After the great success of the meal/get together that I missed and BH European convention, what about an away day to Sheffield?

It's just a thought? BH is as good an organiser as you will find and a Gersnet away day on the Saturday of the pre season friendly v Wednesday seems like a decent proposition? Would all depend on costs etc but surely we could organise bus or train down and back the same day?

    Thoughts anyone?

we should hire a minibus and have a responsible driver like Brahim.

we should go the day before getting drunk and stoned on the journey down.

when we get there we should get hookers and a sleazy hotel...Blueflag will know how to do that for us

we hit the pubs pm next day having seen the delight of Sheffield....yes there's only one

go to the match.......then Brahim drives us back afterwards....and we have a big kerry oot to drown our sorroows after being gubbed

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I've never driven a mini bus but I would give it a go.

I'd be happier with an overnight in Sheffield, let me look at costs.

I didn't read this thread before because of the title, suggest admin change it to something like "Gersnet Trip to Sheffield".

  6. We certainly weren't hiding from anyone as we sat on a prominent table on the main walkway. I don't think many who knows FS could miss him as he was sitting almost on the walkway. Later because of the sun we did move to a table with more shadow closer to the building. Many who walked by who knew FS, DT or GD from earlier trips stopped to talk to them. If I had of seen you I would have came over to you but I never saw you. I arrived early morning and drove back directly after the game. I wanted to drive in the night as it would have cost me hours of sitting in traffic jams to drive during the day. I drove there in one go in 4hours. On the way back I stopped 5 times for a sleep as I hadn't slept the night before taking me nearer 6 hours. I have learned over the years if you start yawning behind the steering wheel it is time to stop. Next year god willing I will try not be such a boring bastard refusing drink.:)

A text would have been nice but no worries; glad you had a safe trip.

  7. For me and others it was obvious who he meant so he doesn't have to answer to you. I don't know why you have taken to noise JFK up but please give it a rest.

Because as Craig has demonstrated quite clearly some of his comments e.g. Rangers were better than Aberdeen last season, the potential game vs AEL Limassol was going to be easy, defy all known fact and logic; and others on religion are "hypocritical, Insulting" and offensive" to some, Craig's words, not mine.

As I've said I stand corrected on this one.

  8. I was under the impression that Doncaster is the "main" man at the SPFL.

He is the CEO and is very fond of saying that he can only do what the Clubs tell him or allow him to do; but as all CEO's he interprets that liberally.

  9. I'm fairly sure he meant the Timmy moon-howlers in the media and on twatter, not anyone here!

Either you are just being daft or you are being deliberately obtuse. Its fairly obvious he is talking about 'off site' reporting and comments across various media.

If that's what he means, then I stand corrected; personally I'm not sure it's obvious at all; but I'm sure he can answer for himself.

  10. Can't come quick enough for me so we can all get back to talking predominately about football rather than the grunting of pseudo tax/legal experts and frankly total nut cases.

These are pretty wide ranging slurs on posters here; care to name any names?

  11. Nope, we should definitely charge for them as we need to plug the gap in expected income that the Luxembourg fiasco will have cost us. Obviously at modest levels (no more than £15 for adults) but we cannot afford to bring a side to Ibrox for a friendly, paying their expenses and fee for the match, and getting no matchday income for it.

Personally, I would prefer that we arrange all our pre-season games as closed doors events or away games that we get a fee for attending. It doesnt impact on me personally as I wont ever go to a friendly again, home or away, as the games are garbage, non-competitive, rotating subs for the last half hour, and generally a waste of time unless you are only going "fur the swally!" which is of course perfectly acceptable as long as you dont then moan about how shit the game was!

I was being a little tongue in cheek; but how about a fiver or a tenner max and kids for free?

Re: Sheffield Wed at Hillsborough 30th July 3pm kick off

Birmingham City at home and Watford away about to be announced according to someone on Twitter (no dates)

They should let fans in for free at any home pre-season friendly that is arranged now.

  14. A wonderful documentary tbat had me in tears towards the end.

I was at school listening to the game in Vienna when he broke his leg in 1965 and can remember being devasted.

  15. I tookthis from FF. Seemingly Chris McLaughlin had contacted 11 SPFL clubs for their opinion if Rangers should be stripped of Trophy's. I can't find it on the BBC site. Not the result he was looking for I think.

Top SPFL clubs contacted by BBC for views re calls for review of EBT use by #Rangers:

    1 Yes

    2 No

    5 No current position

    3 Didn't respond

As I said earlier in the thread, I don't believe there will be any appetite for this.
