  1. There will even less support for this kind of save-the-relegated-teams excercise than there had been for the initial vote. Just drags the circus on while teams shed players in cost-cutting attempts et al. You would hope some of them just go the full monty and drag the SPFL to the court regarding the first vote and all that came of it.
  2. My reasoning (as per first posting on this) was that had the season not been closed, the clubs would sure have kept their players on, even if contracts were due to run out in June. This was no issue now and thus they shed their squads like there is no tomorrow (as Dunfermline, Ross County and Co. did). Well, there is, but "when" is the question and the gap till then is one the clubs do not need to finance for these players. I would assume that in normal circumstances, the freebie-players would probably face a few weeks without a new employer too, but this "window" might be longer than usual.
  3. When we start again to out-muscle and out-fight the likes of Livingston at home, we are already loosing. Stewart, Jones, Morelos and Kamberi can hold their own, Aribo is excellent in retaining and getting the ball. Jack and the three defenders should be able to cope with the "menace" that their attack will be, so we need to beat them in their own half and penalty area.
  4. And here was me thinking my first post was clear enough about extending the season and thus having player contracts possibly extended too.
  5. Well, if the contract is up on 30th of May it is up, isn't it? It might have been different if the season was to be extended and deals might have been extended too, but as it stands, who would stop them just not extending any deals that are up?
  6. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/saido-berahino-manuel-benson-rangers-22093076 Berahino is only 26? Thought he was more like 36. Benson Manuel is a right winger, with quite a lengthy contract still going. Saido Berahino on TM Benson Manuel on TM
  7. ... there was some calculation made in January that we will pocket a total of up to 18m for our whole campaign, which would be some "consolation". Probably not as much (and I don't want to dig the article up right now), but still enough cash to make our accountants smile.
  8. ... and against Livingston at home ... McGregor Edmundson - Helander - Katic Jack Stewart - Aribo - Hagi - Jones Morelos - Kamberi ... ?
  9. Do keep in mind that by the time we play them, they will have quite a number of competitive games under their belt against quality opposition, while we will be rusty after an inforced break.
  10. Well, coming to think of it, one of the main reasons for teams outwidth any league issues (titles, promotion, relegation) to vote for an end of the season could very well have been the simple fact that they are now able to shed 50+ % of their teams and have no need to sign up any replacements instantly, thus no need of paying wages. If that can be proven, the PFA should be up in arms as dozens of players will be end up "unemployed" for a few months in a simple cost-cutting excercise by clubs that just got money from the SPFL. Obviously, 8 out of 12 teams use loan players and freebies for the best part of the 10 years anyway, but keeping the season going would have meant that they probably had to keep them on till the end of the campaign.
  11. ... well, various factors come into play there, not just money for players. Using the squad and applying different tactics for different opposition would be essential too.
  12. I have removed the brackets about Hagi ... since Genk report it is done.

  16. Big problem of us. In his first season, Tavernier tried his luck from open play quite often, but threw his shooting boots away thereafter. Last season, Aribo, Kent, Arfield and Jack had short streaks of attempts from distance, but forgot it thereafter. Ojo - probably due to his youthful enthusiasm - tried things others did not and banged some fine goals in. Hagi came and also had some fine efforts from distance. It is quite important that we do this regularly, not least with these packed defences. Time and again we try to dance our way through line after line of defence, only to lose out 8 out of 10 times. Bang (hopefully) precise balls in cause panic with deflection and clearing attempts. 4th official now reports that the Hagi deal is done.
  17. About time I whip up the Summer Transfer Thread ...
  18. The league "had to be called" as there was no way games could have been played. And sure not before empty stands. For some reason, cup games are seemingly a different sort of game. Monday was Championee-Day, then Thursday Doncaster and Co. called on SNP-Nic that football must restart in August, no problems regarding empty stands. Hm. Yesterday, Dunfermline Athletic, sadly, had to tell everyone that they will not renew the contracts of players who are out of contract this summer. Just 17. One would assume that many teams will follow suit. Tell me, how exactly did the paying out of SPFL money help clubs like Dunfermline? How exactly did ending the season help clubs like Dunfermline? By the looks of it, even if clubs can afford playing games in front of empty stands, they probably have no players playing for them because they cannot afford the wages.
  19. Direct link to the article: Why was there such a rush to end the SPFL season? The board still have questions to answer At the end of the day, the only question that needs answered is: qui bono? And no matter they'll turn it and warp it, the only one team that benefitted from all of this is Celtic FC. Neatly spun plot.
  20. We do have a rather good right winger in Stewart. It is frustrating that we have quite a few good chaps for certain slots, but play the same 3-attackers-line-up that they rarely get on the job. Depending on the opposition, I'd use both Jones and Stewart as wingers, Kent, Hagi and Aribo as the AMs, Jack as DM and three defenders. Kamberi and Morelos up top. Kill them in their own area.

  22. So three days after handing the Scum the title for an unfinished season, a season that could not be completed behind closed doors (due to financial strains et al) in what would essentially have amounted to a 4-week schedule with 2 games each, they make a 180° turn and want the new season started behind closed doors? You couldn't make it up. BTW, the first OF, in their lair, would be up roundabout the end of August, early September. Bet365 should start a bet on whether that date will be put back to the furthest date of the first batch of matches, so the Scum get a full house ...

  24. Whyte ... has he actually been chased for ruining the club and what might be termed something like delaying filing of insolvency (well, by not paying VAT and PAYE)?
  25. To bad that we couldn't cash in on Foderingham. Halliday will always be one of us.
