Elgin's Jack vows: We will do better at Ibrox next time by Craig Christie History man . . . Jamie Duff (left) blasts the ball past Rangers goalkeeper Neil Alexander to stun the Ibrox faithful. Rangers came back to win the game 5-1. THEY may have lost the match, but Elgin City won a host of admirers for their impressive Ibrox performance, says Ross Jack. City were beaten 5-1 by a slick Rangers side, but their willingness to have a go at the Glasgow giants and keep playing football earned praise for manager Jack and his team. Jack says his players did the club proud, a statement backed up by the messages of support he has been given since Sundayâ??s televised match. Elgin fans were proud of their team's brave effort. And he revealed how everyone at Rangers went out of their way to give Elgin a warm welcome and ensure they had a memorable day. "I canâ??t praise (Rangersâ?? boss) Ally McCoist, Kenny McDowall (his assistant) and the Rangers staff enough, because they were fantastic in the way they looked after us before and after the game," Ross said. "We had a great chat in the managerâ??s office and when we discussed the game, they were full of praise for our players. It was nice to hear, and it wasnâ??t just talk, it was genuine praise. "Iâ??ve had phone calls and messages as well, from people impressed by the way we played. "As for the Rangers supporters, we got a great reception when we arrived, and a tremendous round of applause from a big group of them as we were driving away from Ibrox. "I think it was an appreciation of the fact that we didnâ??t try to kick them off the park or shut up shop, we tried to play our Elgin City game at their home, also that we gave them a right fright." The â??frightâ?? element was supplied by City centre half Jamie Duff, who fired the underdogs into a sensational 15th minute lead before the â??Gers eventually took control of the contest. http://www.northern-scot.co.uk/Sport/Football/Elgins-Jack-vows-We-will-do-better-next-time-07092012.htm

A timescale for the investigation into alleged dual contracts at Rangers should become clearer next week. There will be a procedural hearing on Tuesday and Wednesday involving members of the independent commission and lawyers from Rangers. The independent commission was set up by the Premier League. It will investigate the allegations that previous players at the Glasgow club were paid with so-called side contracts. "The Scottish Premier League today announced that the independent commission to inquire into alleged EBT payments and arrangements made by Rangers in relation to players during the period from 2000 until 2011 will sit on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 September," said an SPL statement. "The hearing will be chaired by Lord Nimmo Smith and will consider submissions from parties on various procedural matters. "It will not be a hearing of the merits of the case." The three-man group, which also features Charles Flint QC and Nicholas Stewart QC, will eventually decide whether Rangers broke SPL rules regarding payments made through their controversial Employee Benefit Trust scheme. Such payments are also the subject of a tax tribunal, which is yet to be decided. The tax tribunal will have no impact on the current Ibrox regime, whose side now plays in Division Three and which bought the assets and business of the soon-to-be-liquidated club. However, the SPL probe could lead to Rangers being stripped of league titles, although there are more than a dozen other potential sanctions

Carlos Bocanegra's Spanish move on brink of falling through
Steve1872 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
AMSTERDAM – The agent for US captain Carlos Bocanegra reports that his client's temporarily delayed move from Rangers to Racing Santander gained league clearance on Friday evening. The defender's loan deal had been on hold since last Friday's transfer deadline day, when he completed the arrangement near the witching hour. Scottish media speculation raised the possibility that Bocanegra could be returned to Rangers due to Santander being tardy in registration with the Segunda División office, but it has now been determined that all necessary paperwork had been filed before the transfer buzzer. "Carlos has gained clearance for the loan move to Racing Santander," Bocanegra's agent, Lyle Yorks, told MLSsoccer.com. "He will be available for selection when he returns [from US duty]." Bocanegra, who is preparing for Friday's CONCACAF World Cup qualifier in Jamaica, will get his first chance to suit up for Racing when Recreativo Huelva pay a visit on Sept. 15. Winless in three thus far this season, the Highlanders will travel to Huesca on Sunday. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/09/07/american-exports-bocas-move-racing-santander-cleared -

We are still in the preliminary stages of this process and will make further announcements once the Club has been able to consider its plans in further detail.”

Lee McCulloch is ideal choice for skipper, says Pat Nevin

Rangers skipper honoured by far north Gers faithful Far north Rangers diehards at Ibrox handing over the player of the year trophy to Lee McCulloch. With the player are, from left, Thurso Gers team manager Willie Inrig, vice-chairman Graeme Gunn, chairman Alyn Gunn and Ian Smith. Also on the trip was Billy A THURSO football club founded by Rangers fans made a trip to Ibrox last weekend to present a special award to the club captain. Five committee members of Thurso Gers football club presented Lee McCulloch with the Davie Cooper Cup for being the clubâ??s player of the year for last season. They were invited to Ibrox to present the award to the 34-year-old midfielder in the Ibrox tunnel, before he led his side to victory in the 5-1 romp over Elgin City. Thurso Gers chairman Alyn Gunn said that he and the others were delighted to be invited to Ibrox to hand over the award to a player who led by example last season. â??The Davie Cooper Cup has been established since 2005 and always recognised what we thought was Rangersâ?? player of the year,â? he said. â??It was an honour to hand it over to the club captain, as any Rangers fan would have to admit that he was a stand-out, especially in the latter stages of last season. â??He was also the first player to commit to the newco, so we think the award couldnâ??t go to anyone more deserving. â??The club has gone through some hard times but McCullochâ??s hard work and destination is what is needed to get us back to the top.â? As well as presenting the award, the committee also had a chance to meet all the players before they went on to the pitch. Thurso Gers play in a local seven-a-side league but has announced plans to field in the Caithness County League within the next five years. http://www.johnogroat-journal.co.uk/News/Rangers-skipper-honoured-by-far-north-Gers-faithful-07092012.htm -
Friday September 7,2012 By Scott Burns UEFA could open the door for a another move to introduce a money-boosting Atlantic League. The move was first mooted back in 2000 when former PSV Eindhoven chief executive Peter Fossen drew up a blueprint for an alternative European competition for the so-called lesser nations. Discussions were held with both Rangers and Celtic, along with teams from Portugal, Holland, Belgium and the Scandinavian countries. It now could be revisited if a similar model in the womenâ??s game with the BeNe League, where teams from Belgium and Holland will compete against each other over the next three years, is successful. â??As two little countries together we will be more powerful,â? BeNe League spokeswoman Ingrid Vanherle said. â??All eyes are on us to see if itâ??s successful.â? The initial Atlantic League was flagged up to try and raise revenues for teams who struggled to make the more lucrative stages of the Champions League and Europa League. The move, which would have been played parallel to the domestic campaign, eventually bit the dust over possible European qualification places. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/344500/Atlantic-League-scheme-resurrected

The new owner of Rangers Football Club is close to appointing advisers to kick off a swift return to the London stock market. I understand that the consortium led by Charles Green, which took control of the Scottish outfit in a cut-price £5.5m deal to acquire its assets in June, is poised to hire Cenkos Securities, the broking firm, to handle the flotation. Cenkos is one of a number of brokers which have held talks with Mr Greenâ??s consortium in recent weeks, and it remains possible that another firm will be appointed if an agreement cannot be reached, according to insiders. The listing is likely to see the newly-reconstituted Rangers, which began the season in the bottom tier of Scottish professional football, listed on the junior AIM market before the end of the year. People close to the situation said that it could seek to raise as much as £20m, part of which is likely to be used to fund the acquisitions of new players. Details of how supporters and investors will be able to acquire shares in the company, called The Rangers Football Club, will not be available for several weeks, insiders say. Rangers' takeover and subsequent demotion to the Scottish Third Division capped an astonishing fall from grace for one of the biggest names in British sport. The club's liquidation following the fiasco of the ownership of Craig Whyte culminated in a series of bitter contract disputes with star players, and the tax man. Since the deal Mr Green, a former chief executive of Sheffield United, has struck a merchandising joint venture with Mike Ashley, the tycoon who owns Newcastle United and who may acquire a stake in Rangers as part of a stock market listing. Mr Green believes that despite its recent travails, Rangers has considerable international potential as a sporting and leisure brand. If Rangers successfully floats with a valuation of around £30m, that could augur well for the prospective valuation of the clubâ??s 'Old Firm' rivals, Celtic, which is also listed on AIM. There have been few new stock market flotations of major British football clubs in recent years, with Manchester Unitedâ??s recent listing in New York being a rare example. The club declined to comment. http://news.sky.com/story/981908/exclusive-rangers-plots-stock-market-return

leggo Tuesday, 4 September 2012 PETER LAWWELL MEETS PHILMACGIOLLABHAIN CELTIC chief executive Peter Lawwell has met with the man now shamed by the Sun, Philmacgiollabhain. And I have the photographic evidence which proves the two men were in each other’s company when Celtic were on their recent trip to Philadelphia. It is almost inconceivable that Celtic chief executive, Scottish Football Association board member and Scottish Premier League powerbroker, Peter Lawwell, did not recognise Philmacgiollabhain or know about his tawdry background. Just as it is almost inconceivable that Sun editor Andy Harries did not know about Philmacgiollabhain. Just as it is also almost inconceivable that Andy Harries was given warnings by many on his staff about Philmacgiollabhain before he handed over two pages of the Sun on Sunday to Philmacgiollabhain’s wild fantasies. Plus promising that Philmacgiollabhain’s book would be serialised in the Sun this week. But the Sun editor, known to Sun hacks as Halfwit Harries, got a shock and reneged on his deal with Philmacgiollabhain when Rangers supporters made it clear they were organising a boycott of the paper. That was when Harries finally took notice of Philmacgiollabhain's background and pulled the plug. In fact Halfwit Harries went even further. He kept digging a hole for himself by admitting the newspaper he is editor of published a thousand words of unsubstantiated allegations by Philmagiollabhain. And then did the deal to serialise Philmacgiollabhain’s book without doing any research on what kind of character they were dealing with. It is all there is the cringing Sun editorial in Monday’s paper. If true, it reveals a staggering level of incompetence and ineptitude of a degree I have never before encountered in nearly half a century in the business. In fact, one old pal, a former tabloid editor, snorted his derision at the Harries claims, adding that if true, the next piece of paper Halfwit Harries should be reading is his P45. I’m not so sure. I worked with Harries for two years on the Scottish Daily Express during the mid 1990s when, if memory serves me well, he was either the number three or four on the paper. During that time there was one word most of the experienced and talented hacks on the paper used to describe Harries. Dud! However, there was one thing which the Sun editorial – known in the inky trade as the leader – got right and which shames Philmacgiollabhain. Philmacgiollabhain has previously published many a rant which spews bigoted views about Rangers and Rangers supporters and which verge on racist attacks on Scotland and the Scots. Which takes us back to Philadelphia, Celtic and the man many see as the most powerful figure in Scottish football, Celtic chief executive, Scottish Football Association board member and Scottish Premier League powerbroker, Peter Lawwell. Now, we do not know if the meeting between Peter Lawwell and Philmacgiollabhain, which was captured by the camera and is freely available on a number of Celtic websites, was pre-arranged or a chance encounter. But we do know it is not the first time Peter Lawwell has met with somebody who is a well known bigot. How do we know? Because the bigot in question, Joe O’Rourke, has told us. Joe O’Rourke is the General Secretary of the Official Celtic Supporters’ Association who said that he wanted to see Protestants drowned. He remains the General Secretary of the Official Celtic Supporters’ Association and as such has privileged access to talk with Peter Lawwell on matters affecting his 26,000 members. Just what this tells us about those 26,000 Celtic supporters who allow themselves to be represented by a man who is on record as saying he wants to see Protestant drowned, is something I will leave for others to decide. Just as they can make up their own minds about what it tells us about Peter Lawwell. And, just as others can also decide what it tells us about Scottish football, when a man, Peter Lawwell, who is a close pal of Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan, is a board member of the Scottish Football Association, plus a serious Scottish Premier League powerbroker, continues to meet the bigot Joe O’Rourke and is pictured in the company of Philmacgiollabhain. No doubt there are some sections of the Celtic support – the Green Brigade? – who would be furious if Peter Lawwell publicly denounced Joe O’Rourke and Philmacgiollabhain. Just as there are some sections of the Celtic support – the Green Brigade? – who would be even more furious if they discovered some of the others Peter Lawwell may been sitting down with in private. -

The talk about him asking for to much money could not be further from the truth, all to do with playing for his country, as posted last night he said its a great club and doesn't have a bad word to say about the club or how he was treated but unfortunately it just isn't the right situation to match his ambitions as a footballer!! Not many players would turn down the money offered to him so I'd say fair play for choosing ambition over money I posted all I knew about the deal yesterday an everything was from the man himself!! -
