couple of stories of FF I was Salmon fishing on the Nith for a few days and when checking out of the hotel in Thornhill on the Saturday morning i spots Malcolm Murray checking out at the same time, anyway we started chatting and he asks me if im going to the game to which i reply i dont have a ticket, he asks me if im driving and tells me to follow him in his car , he says he has to go and see Ally and will get me a ticket then. So there i am following him and we end up at the Aston hotel in Dumfries where the team are staying, Murray introduces me to Ally, Kenny McD, Ian Black and Jig, he then went in with them for ten minutes where they were about to have lunch, when he came back out he says i will have to follow him into Annan as he had to be there early to make a presentation, i said thats fine but what will happen when we get to the ground, i pointed out that they will have parking for officials etc, He asked what my surname was and said just keep following him, anyway we get to Annans ground and im waived in behind him into a "car park" accross from the ground. Mr Murray chats to a few people who had been waiting for him, introduces me as his friend and tells me to wait for him and he will get me a ticket. So off he goes, returns ten minutes later and hands me an envolope, he says "theres two tickets in there, im sure you will give the other one to the right person". Unbelievable, absolutley unbelievable, i look in the envolope , theres two tickets made out to Mr Murray, i decided to go and have a pint and give the other ticket to the first needy Bear i came across, so im standing in the line to use the bog and the guy in front is asking everyone if they have a spare, i give him mine and he insists on buying me a pint, so i join him and his mate who only turns out to be southside shug, who i had never met before(hi Shug) So there it is a bit long and boring, i never got any info or anything but i did learn that Malcolm Murray is one very good guy Hi all, I was travelling up from London last night for the match, and as I was sat in my seat, a gentleman sat next to me and I noticed he was wearing a Rangers blazer. As I looked up from my paper, I recognised the face and asked how he was. The response I got was, well looking at your face you obviously know who I am, are you one of us? I said yeah and I was travelling up for the match and showed him my RFC cufflinks Anyway - as we were dealyed about 20 mins on the run way, I had about 90 mins in this mans company and we spoke about trips abroad with Rangers, games he had been to see, whom his favourite players were from before my time, and who mines were. He asked if I attended matches, and I said yeah home, away, Europe - the lot. He told me about his experiences on Annan, Brechin and Berwick this year as well as Barca, Fiorientina away and the UEFA Cup Final. We gave our opinions on tactics, players, C.Green, ticket prices, media, marketing, Murray Park, Ibrox, Craig Whyte, the fan base, players, investment, etc.... Spoke very highly of the fighting fund and museum idea which Jin Hannah has discussed with the new regime. I didn't know a lot about the man - for instance he's had 2 x season books for several years, and still has 2 just now which his friends use in Bar72. He lives in Surrey, but has a home in the highlands. The group he worked for used to own 25% in Man Utd - and from the guys who were in at the start with Man Utd made 26 x their initial stake which is a decent return in any business. He only attended 1/2 dozen games when he was at Man Utd, but has attended more than that this season already with Rangers and his reasoning was because he's a fan, and Man Utd was only business. Once our flight had landed I asked how he was getting to Ibrox, and he said a taxi - would I like to share. My response, well my auld mans picking me up if you would like a lift - too which he accepted, so we dropped him off on the Broomloan corner at the round about about 50 mins before last nights games. He was in with potential investors last night - and in his words usually come to nothing, but as Rangers is a very exciting opportunity - people want to be in at the start as our world is getting smaller and we will not be in the lower leagues forever. Flying back to London this afternoon for a meeting on getting Rangers on the stock exchange which is the big project just now and requiring a lot of work - and this did seem to be his strong point!? Spoke about D.Murray not having many options with Craig Whyte and that the bank were putting massive pressure on getting anyone in to solve the debt. Said he didn't know Charles Green until the Rangers thing came around and that a company named Zeus were the link there... The man is defintiely a Rangers fan, and has some knowledge of football like every fan does. He is obviously a fairly succesful business man and he spoke pretty openly, and hopefully honestly. That in-flight chat coupled with the fantastic Rangers performance and atmosphere last night certainly made it a great drive home last night.

Baker hides Scottish Cup tie tickets for Rangers game in prized pies Prized pies: A Forres baker is offering patrons the chance to win 'Golden Tickets'.Macleans Bakery Moray-based baker hopes to boost his sale after being inspired by Willy Wonka's 'Golden Tickets'. A baker has devised a novel scheme to boost his sales and offer some sought after tickets for the Scottish Cup tie against Rangers this weekend. Lewis Maclean is inserting a "Golden Ticket" in two of his Scotch pies on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, which will allow six of his customers to watch Forres Mechanics take part in the biggest match in their history when they welcome Ally McCoist's side to Mosset Park on Saturday. The Forres-based baker dreamed up the idea after reading Roald Dahl's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and it has already proved a hit with residents. Not that Maclean's products need any hard sell, given that he is a former world champion in the competitive field of pie manufacturing and will be hoping that the Highland League side can show equal quality when they attempt to create history in the Cup. The Highland Bakery owner said: "It's a champion pie and we are giving customers the chance to win tickets for what should be a champion match. "We usually sell around a couple of hundred Scotch pies every day, so the odds are better than the lottery. And with the match being a sell-out, this is a good way to win a ticket. "There is a lot of interest in this game, for obvious reasons, and the community is buzzing about the Scottish Cup. That is why we came up with the "Willy Wonka" pie. It has got people talking and it has definitely helped to generate a positive atmosphere about the place." Forres are known as the "Can-Cans" and were formed in 1884. http://local.stv.tv/forres/news/191999-forres-baker-serves-up-willy-wonka-golden-tickets-for-rangers-cup-clash/

Jim Baxter transferred to Rangers for £17,500 it was a Scottish record. The princely sum of £1,000 was his signing-on fee and, at the age of 21, he was now earning £22 basic per week plus the win bonuses that would be frequent at Ibrox in the early 60s

TORRY GILLICK ( 1933-35 + 46-50) Torry Gillick stood out because of his unusual first name – Torrance. Always called Torry, he was an extrovert character as befitting his name. As you can see from his dates, he was the only player ever re-signed by Bill Struth

Ronnie McKinnon’s greatest tragedy was that, due to injury, he missed out on Rangers’ 1972 European Cup Winners’ Cup victory in Barcelona. Earlier, in the quarter-final, second leg against Sporting Lisbon, away, he had suffered a broken leg and failed to recover in time to play in the final. As a token of its gratitude for his efforts in the earlier rounds, the club took McKinnon with it as part of the official party to Barcelona McKinnon’s leg break was supposed to heal in around 6 months but so bad was it that it took all of 18 months to clear up

FACT: Rangers captain Lee McCulloch's father, Rev W McCulloch, is Minister of the Church of Scotland in Rome tweeted by Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser St Andrew's Church is a congregation of the Church of Scotland in Rome, Italy, belonging to the Church's Presbytery of Europe. The current minister is Rev. William B. McCulloch. The congregation began in the early 1860s with a small group of Scots and American presbyterians who met in the neighbourhood of the Spanish Steps. A first building was opened in 1871 near the Porta Flaminia. The present building, at Via Venti Settembre 7 (about half way between the Piazza della Repubblica and the Palazzo del Quirinale), was opened early in 1885. Planning permission was granted only on condition that the building should not from the outside look like a church. Hence the architecture is similar to that of the various Italian government ministries in the same street. The building is set back a little from the street, with an enclosed forecourt, and is constructed on four levels. The church itself takes up the whole of the ground floor, above this are offices, a manse, and a broad roof terrace with views over the Vatican City. The interior architecture of the church reflects the older Presbyterian tradition, with a central pulpit and a minimum of decoration. A memorial to Scottish servicemen lost in the Italian campaign has a prominent position. Services are held each Sunday at 11 a.m. in English. Location / address: Via XX Settembre, 7, 00187 Roma.

On 18th September. 1917, King George V honoured Rangers by having an investiture ceremony at Ibrox. He was driven around the Ibrox track in a car to the cheers of the crowd before presenting medals to war heroes. During the conflict, various Rangers players received medals including Walter Tull who had been the first black player to sign for the club. Tragically, he was killed in action 6 months after this ceremony having won two medals and been recommended for the Military Cross, a decoration second only to the Victoria Cross for bravery.

Gers’ keeper, Bobby Brown, when a Queen’s Park player, was the last player to be capped for Scotland while still an amateur. The “Iron Curtain” keeper was never a full- time player at Ibrox but chose, against the wishes of Bill Struth, to remain a P.E. teacher at Denny High School.

Green In Murray Talks Written by Lindsay Herron CHARLES GREEN has struck a deal to purchase Edmiston House after a meeting with Sir David Murray in Edinburgh yesterday when the former owner also pledged his support in the fight with the authorities over the use of EBTs. Speaking exclusively to RangersTV, the chief executive revealed that the two men had met for the first time and that the former owner was a very good source of information. Edmiston House is situated behind the Copland Road stand and offers three floors of office space and was previously owned and used by Murrayâ??s Response Handling company. It was previously a venue for the Ticket Centre and the Rangers Social Club. Green told RangersTV: â??I met Sir David for the first time yesterday. Indeed I hadnâ??t even spoken with him before. â??We had a good chat and we talked about a number of subjects. â??Sir David is really keen to help the club. I welcome that and I appreciate the time we spent together. â??He has some clear views in terms of EBTs and there is no-one knows better than Sir David about that and he is prepared to do whatever is required to set the record straight. â??From a tangible point of view one of the things we went to discuss was trying to acquire Edmiston House because that would be very important to my plans. â??I think we have agreed in principle a deal on that. So he has helped the club by coming to an acceptable deal on that and that is very much appreciated. â??We have some plans for the property and these will be unveiled in the future.â? â??I am looking forward to seeing him and meeting with him again because he has a wealth of knowledge of Rangers Football Club. He was very important to this club over the last 20 years.â? Murray, of course, has been under fire from fans for transferring ownership to Craig Whyte last May which, in turn, led to the horrendous turmoil of the last six months due to Whyteâ??s refusal to hand over PAYE, NIC and VAT payments to HMRC. Green said: â??He did sell the club to Craig Whyte and thatâ??s history now. Sir David wouldnâ??t have been the first person that made a mistake with Mr Whyte but we all have to move on. â??Whilst there may be some fans who are unhappy with Sir David there were lots of fans who were unhappy with Charles Green and I would like to think we have forward on that as well.â?

In the 1960 / 61 European Cup, in the second round, Rangers were drawn against East German Champions, Vorwarts of Berlin. Gers won the first leg 2-1 in East Berlin but because the Allied Authorities wouldn’t grant the East Germans the necessary visas, Vorwarts couldn’t come to Ibrox to play their away leg. This was played in Malmo, Sweden. With Rangers leading 1-0, fog caused the match to be abandoned at half-time. It was replayed the next morning at nine o’clock in front of a few hardy spectators. Rangers won 4-1 this time.
