SPL has coped with loss of Rangers, says Neil Doncaster
calscot replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
The highland clubs and the Dundee clubs get no money from league attendees in the Govan Stand... The fact is that if they fill their grounds for both home games against their local rivals then they will be making almost as much money as a game against Rangers (tickets for Rangers games are usually higher). So the point is valid. Dundee are certainly a lot better off than if they were in the 1st division. However it only affects four clubs and the likelihood is that it will only benefit two clubs once one of the new teams is relegated. The SPL are probably just about coping at the moment as everything is new and different plus they still are just about hanging on to the sponsors and TV money while being supplemented by money due to Rangers. Basically the storm has not yet kicked in. Once the novelty wears off and Celtic are beating everyone and leading by a mile, interest in the league will probably taper off dramatically. I really can't see the appetite by fans, sponsors or TV for another one horse race next season, nevermind a third. Also, with us out of the way, who will be the fans next hate figures? The strange love affair with Celtic will soon end when they wake up and realise what kind of people they are in bed with. I still laugh at the congrats to Celtic in the CL with reference to "Team Scotland" to a club which can't stand our country and actually sees itself as Irish. This season is all about getting stuck into Rangers, but when they get bored of drinking on that, next season will be very sobering for them. -
Seeing as the deal was terminated, did it not work out as more P.A.?

Can't stand Apple so it would be negative PR for me... Don't want them near the club.

Time to spend money - that depends. We've taken in a load of ticket money, and spent very little on the players and now have a year transfer embargo (but should have a good enough squad to do the job). If the seats NEED replacing in some sections, then now could be a good time to do it. How much is a new seat when you buy in bulk? You should just need the seat itself, not the metal work for support. However, multiplying by 50k will always bring up a large number. IF it was affordable I'd do half the seats with padded ones and leave the other half but put in hand-rails in front of them for safe standing. Don't know what you can do about leg room - the terraces the seats are on are already built and that would be too expensive to change.

I've nothing against a lot of songs, colours and religions but that doesn't mean I like them or want them. I'd be the same if you wanted Rangers fans to sing "You'll never walk alone", wanted the club to change the away strips to bright green and wanted to associate the club with Southern Ireland and/or the Catholic church. I'd be the same if you wanted Rangers fans to sing "Onward Christian soldiers", have a black strip with red lapels and associate the club with the Salvation Army. I'd be the same if you wanted Rangers fans to sing some Muslim song, have a strip that has long trousers and a shirt which goes down to your knees and associate the club with Islam. I don't know what you mean about Ulster Bears thinking they were on the wrong site - is it because they expect to be treated as extra special? I don't get it. I didn't call you a liar but you as much as lied when you wrote, "You've as much as called anyone who wants an Orange strip bigots for wanting to be associated with the OO". You can have a problem with whatever you like. Or you could chill instead. -

This is getting surreal. What question have I not answered? Please enlighten me? And what other stuff do you just want to make up out of thin air? Where have I called anyone a bigot? I've never said the OO are bigoted and I don't think of the OO as being any more bigoted than almost all religious groups. Who actually cares how much a colour means to certain people when it comes to your football club? I assume we have all sorts of fans who have colours from the whole spectrum that mean something to them - so what? Should we pander to them all including a green strip and a pink one and a rainbow one? I really think there's something wrong with your thinking if you can't see a connection between singing the sash, orange and the OO. I've nothing against the OO but then I've nothing against a lot of groups - but I don't want my club to be associated with any of them. Rangers are supposed to me more than a club to many but that doesn't seem enough for some who want Rangers just to be a small part of something else they see as more important. Can you show me where it says " Ulster Bears should be condemned for asking for an Orange strip" and "the subsequent crap written about them". I'm lost, you must be speaking a different language or getting the threads mixed up - or most likely just making it up. For what reason, I have no idea, but it is very weird to me. And go on - you said you'd answer the question... (although I have no idea which question you are supposed to be answering). -
There is no rule against it in the SFL. All we really need is some handrails in front of the seats in certain sections.

You either get it, or you don't...

What ARE you on about. You can read English can't you? I haven't had a pop at anyone. Protestants are supposed to be, "good" as they they follow the teachings of Christ, those that aren't "good" aren't being Protestants. Do you even know anything about the Christian religion? Where have I said that Ulster protestants don't count? What I said is that they are no more important to me in the context of fans than any other Rangers fans from other locations and religions/non-religions. Why do you think that Ulster Protestants are far more important than all other Rangers fans? I can think of some other people from another club who think they should have extra special treatment due to "what they've been through", but I never thought it would be like that for Rangers fans. Do you think that Ulster Catholics, Muslims and non-religious people DON'T count? Do Scottish protestants and the rest NOT count? I think when it comes to Rangers, ALL Rangers fans count equally. What bit of that don't you understand? -

Sorry but you can't sing a load of OO songs, ask for an orange strip and then say, I've got lot's of reasons, none of which are the OO. At least be real about it. -

I really don't see how a football strip of a Scottish club is relevant to your relationship to NI people or what they've been through. What next, a Green Peace strip, an Afganistan strip? And I thought it was about football. -

How can people on the one hand go on about celebrating being a good protestant Christian who devotedly follows the teaching of Christ and the New Testament and then when someone says we should act with a tiny bit of decency and they get all irate and call that person PC and an enemy? Some people really need to decide whether they are Protestants or not. -

The reason it's a reference to the OO is that there is no OTHER reason. Dundee Utd are probably nothing to do with the OO but that is there colours for a long, long time - and they don't sing the Sash. How about a green strip then if all colours mean nothing? After all two of our ex-rivals in the SPL have orange strips, what's wrong with green? The connection with the OO is there because it's there in other forms. You're being disingenuous here. -

That reply is just meaningless and just bumping gums for a made up reason. Just what ARE you replying to? I said NOTHING against NI fans, or are YOU against Ayrshire fans? Are you calling them enemies? You don't want to include them and for Rangers to be liked by them? Just what are you saying? All I said is that NI supporters are no more important than Ayrshire fans and Rangers should not change just to suit one sector of fans. What is a PC version? What are you advocating instead? A version where we deliberately go round offending people? Are you a sociopath? Or have you just not grown up yet and like to call people names and "wind them up" ho, ho. You're such a jolly japester and people are trying to spoil your fun eh? Where do you stop? Racist songs and chants? Or are you too PC for that and so an enemy of the club? Our enemies within are the ones that almost gave us sanctions in Europe and doing stuff that could lead to a ban - or are they our best friends? I can't believe such a weird response to a post basically saying all fans should be treated equally. But it shows what baggage we have to deal with. -

I agree, we really don't need to do anything for supporters in one region, why is Ulster more important than say Ayrshire? Rangers should stay true to Rangers no matter where the fans come from. -
If we're going to change the seats we should upgrade them to padded ones like Wembley and a lot of clubs in England - including even the Dons and Millwall.
-
Or even that there seems to be a lot of cooperation between certain clubs that's too cosy for comfort... Or you could call him a weasel...
-
PS Why didn't you tweet to him that when you look at the flags flying from the Celtic fans it seems that they are not giving much cooperation to Scotland...
-
What was the point of that tweet? It doesn't do us any favours whatsoever. If you have something to say, can't you make a point without resorting to name calling? I thought that was their main way of communicating not ours... If anything, Jim Spence came out of that far better than you did. There is a far better level of contribution from yourself on here, why don't you take that to twitter?

£300 for watching a stream is a total rip-off and exploitation of ex-pats - even a season ticket is cheaper these days...
-
Bit expensive for a stream - you'd expect that for a TV feed. I'd say £3 would be about right. I've paid for streams before and been shafted by either the server or some where in the internet chain. Streams are unreliable and generally poor quality compared to TV and so should be cheap in comparison which is why people try to get them for free. Same with music, make it cheap enough instead of a rip off and most people will start to pay. For football you really want to be able to watch it on a big telly with decent definition. Even the quality of Love Film Instant or Netflix would be a start - and a way to watch it in a similar way via your blu ray or telly. I'll pay it but not impressed with the pricing. If they brought out a Setanta type service of live games on Sky with 20 live games a season, I'd be happy to pay what Setanta charged - a tenner a month or £100 a year. Unfortunately that's what they charge for the full online service which gives the game after midnight - and without even an extended highlights package - who's got time to watch 90 mintutes after midnight? If they want a big uptake they really need to think about it more.

Didn't people just wear that to one game at the end of the season? There was more of a reason for it then with the Dutch connection - not many Dutch at Ibrox now... But in any case it's easy to favourably compare a popular, topical one off with the old classics over a short period of time. Special editions sell well in any business. Haven't seen much of it after that - except in the bottom of my football kit box. In fact the last time I seen someone wear it was a picture of CG in the US and he looked a bit terrible in it - but then I think he probably looks strange wearing anything but a classic suit and tie. There's also the fact that he wore shirt underneath and a pair of trousers.
