A good result against a very decent, well drilled side. For whatever reason, some of our fans thought we'd win tonight comfortably.

I'd rather be in our position than theirs.

Seems to be a millenial thing, young guys in the pub I was in during the qualifiers last year were moaning about 0-0 draws away from home. A generation can’t remember 2 legged European games before last year. They genuinely seem to think foreign teams they haven’t heard of must be the same standard as lower league Scottish teams!

Within seconds, the play was at the other end and Rangers should have scored. Scott Arfield sent Alfredo Morelos clear and the Colombian only had keeper Radoslaw Majecki to beat on the angle but his low shot was well saved.

Was that one not offside anyway?

Morelos is available.  No suspensions for us.

Cheers. Couldn’t understand the Polish commentary, but when he got booked the other week I thought another booking would have ruled him out of the next game.

  4. Saw the 2nd half on you tube. Glad I never paid the £10 tbh, we barely crossed the half way line. Should be a great game next week, but if Morelos is banned I’m not too optimistic. Legia looked as happy with the 0-0, but   was it Flanagan who did the goal saving tackle about 65 mins??

  5. I have gave up. Been refreshing rangers.co.uk website to order it every minute since quarter to 7. Haven’t got through once. Obviously thousands of others doing likewise causing system to crash.

I’m blaming Sky Sports News for this. They said this morning kick off was at 8pm. Should have known not to rely on them. Say what you like about the BBC but they rarely get details like that wrong. Club website should have made kick off time clearer too. It said to order over an hour before kick off, which I though I was doing at 1845, but the website never mentioned the early kick off!

  6. Rangers have played opposition from most European countries but we definitely haven’t played an extra terrestrial side before either ?

However these games are always tough. We could dominate & still come back 3-0 down (AEK in 94) so I will bite yet hand off for a score draw tonight!

Why are our side called 'Colts'? Surely Rangers sides are 'Swifts', that was traditionally what we called the sides below the first team.

I think its just the PC term for ‘reserves’ these days.

  8. Helander hasn’t been tested yet so is hardly going to be thrown in to our biggest game of the season. However I do wonder if Gerrard rates him. A bit like Grezda last season - I wonder if Mark Allen signs guys & Stevie G doesn’t fancy them. King obviously has bags of experience, Barker is a strange one though. But McGregor, Goldson, Tavernier, Flanagan & Katic have started every big game when available this season & have the experience of Europa qualifiers last year so I’d be stunned if they didn’t start this one..

At least they actually have a blood relative, Egg chasing is a joke, even big Jackie Charlton would be embarrassed by the nationalities allowed to play for the home nations.

Not to mention cricket.. anyway good luck to Josh McPake. He could play for ROI up to under 21, even at full level in a friendly & still switch allegiance to Scotland after that (or vice versa). Clearly he is a long way off that level, or indeed the Rangers first team. He might never play for either..

  10. Surely Thistle must be favourites for this, if they get to play their first team ?

Looks good, as Clyde are now my local team, however being pedantic can Glasgow Cup games really be played in North Lanarkshire..?

Just noticed we are playing at Dumbarton ? why isn’t Ibrox, or even Auchenhowie with the new stand being used for our home games??

  11. It really does seem that no qualifications are required to work in journalism in Scotland, only family links & supporting the right team (not Rangers). Chris Mclaughlin has got his sister a job at BT Sport it seems. Last week Tom English was tweeting about how he never went to uni but still got a job at BBC Scotland, then there’s that woman who got a HNC from Cardonald college.. must really p1ss off folk who have degrees in journalism but can’t find work!

I think we can beat leggia, i think these danes were abour on same level. Leta hope so.

I hope so too, but doubt it - Midtylland were woeful, especially in defence - their entire back 4 should have been taken out and shot after the defending for the 3rd goal alone!

I think Progres are actually a better team than them, undoubtedly so in defence. Of course I haven’t seen Legia yet, but the atmosphere alone in Warsaw will be a big test for our team. Of course, Rangers seeding is artificially low due to 5 seasons out of Europe. Some teams like Midtylland seeding is artificially high due to a good run a few years ago. Legia deserve to be seeded though, they certainly thumped celtic & Dundee Utd in recent years. We have a good record against Polish teams and that is usually a good indicator, but I think this is a big step up for us & we could be requiring a huge effort & atmosphere at Ibrox for the 2nd leg as we might have to overturn a deficit. We have nothing to lose though, the league is far more important.

    Gerrard European record at Rangers.

    Played 20, won 11, drew 7, lost 2.

    36 goals for 14 against

Broke a quarter century old Walter Smith record by recording 11 consecutive European games without defeat. Quite remarkable for a youth team coach. I had my doubts when he came in but not now.

Sure he got a budget but so did Pedro and got us nowhere. Gerrard appears to know how to build a winning team.

Sorry to be pedantic but Walter Smith and McLeish both went 12 games unbeaten, including Champions League games.. maybe Gerrard will beat that this season.

On another note, is Morelos now our all time top scorer in the UEFA Cup? I believe he broke Nacho Novo’s record last night!

  14. Again, what parallel universe are we in where a Scottish team has some kind of divine right to beat these Eastern European teams?? Croatia were World Cup runners up, Scotland haven’t qualified for the finals for over 20 years. This is simply not the same as getting beat by Welsh part-timers.

Probably a game both could do without. But the winners of the worst CL final ever against the winners of the worst Europa Cup final ever. Both games were appalling. The pressure on Frank Lampard already after the 4-0 defeat.

You obviously never saw any CL final in the early 1990s..!

  16. Anyway, VAR, simple. As in tennis, each manager/captain should be able to call up to 3 reviews in each half for anything - throw ins, fouls etc as they can all lead to a goal. Max 1 minute to make a decision, add the time to injury time & restart with a bounce up if decision was right. It is the arbitrary nature of the existing system which is the problem, plus the time issue. Sorted!
