Walter Smith admits he fears losing top stars

Correct me if I'm wrong but if they fail, then doesn't that harm Scotland's co-efficient, which means we could face qualifying rounds the season after next? If Scotland's automatic CL place goes, it will almost impossible for us or any Scottish side to qualify. You won't like me saying it but we need THEM to do well -along with all Scottish sides.

The coefficient would benefit a lot more from them getting knocked into the Europa cup and doing well there, rather than getting into the CL and having another season like last.

Let's hope they do well in that competition while we get to the last 16 in the CL.

I think the main problem with the financial situation is that although we're guaranteed the CL money, we won't see any of it till next year. In other words the money problems we had in January haven't really gone away. We still need to sell off some assets and lower the wage bill in order to balance the books.

In January, it was £3-4m we needed to bring in. Having failed to do that, the figure could have escalated by now. The other issue is that selling a player for £3-4m won't solve the problem either unless the buyer pays in full up front...which is rare in football these days.

I guess we'll have to just wait and see, but I'd certainly be surprised if we have much (if any) money to spend this summer.

That cuts both ways though, we could be due some payments for Hutton and Cuellar...
