Judges brand Famine Song 'racist'

A nonsense for me. The usual 'system' wins again.

Its merely a suggestion and question. The key word in the song is 'why'. When its sung those singing say 'why dont you go home' - thats a question...its not a statement saying they should go home.

And anyway the match in question was against Kilmarnock...since when did killie have Irish background? so the argument doesnt stick...the judges are making the assumption that it was being directed towards Celtic fans (even though it is).

Im not in favour of the song as i prefer to hear songs only related to Rangers FC but its a matter of right and wrong here.

I've said this many times before - if even half their "deedle-dee-dee" songbook were put under the legal microscope to the extent Rangers fans' songs have been, they would barely have anything left to sing.

For the reasons given above, the Court also has no difficulty in accepting the Sheriff's conclusion that singing the refrain from the "Famine Song" and referring to persons as "f****n Bastards" displays malice and ill-will towards people of Irish descent living in Scotland. In the context of a football fanatic, such as the appellant, who has presumably attended other Rangers' matches where this song has been sung, even if he did not know all the words to all the verses, he would be well acquainted with their general import and sentiment.

1. The song is aimed at people of non-irish decent, so how how can it be racist against people of Irish decent?

2. The song doesn't have other verses. If they are referring to the Dirty Blighters song, it has never been sung at Rangers games.

3. I though using the the term "fen-ian" was meant to refer to RCs, according to the establishment? How can be anti-Irish? I wish they'd make up their minds.
