GORDON STRACHAN is ready to launch a �£2million January raid on Rangers for Kenny Miller.

 

SunSport understands the new Middlesbrough boss wants to bring Miller to the Riverside in a bid to beef up his strikeforce.

 

Strachan is not impressed with the frontline he's inherited from Gareth Southgate and has already landed Marcus Bent on loan.

 

He's been promised funds will be available to land players to take Boro back to the Premier League.

 

And Strachan has already made Miller one of his first targets when the transfer window opens along with Old Firm rival Gary Caldwell.

 

The former Celtic boss signed Miller from Wolves in 2006 before flogging him to Derby County in a �£3million deal 12 months later.

 

Miller returned to Rangers last summer for �£2m - but now Boro are ready to test cash-strapped Gers' resolve.

 

The 29-year-old, who has 18 months left on his contract, has scored 17 goals in 49 games since returning to Scotland in 2008.

 

With the Ibrox outfit �£30m in debt every player will have a price when the window opens.

 

Boro's average wage has been slashed from around �£35,000-a-week to just �£18,000-a-week since relegation.

 

But that sort of money would be more than attractive to Miller, who faces a wage cut along with his Gers buddies.

May even pay for a new contract for Kris Boyd (or probably more likely Nacho Novo)....

Normally one to chortle at such clearly made up garbage, I can only hope this is the 1 in 100 that has an element of truth in it.

 

A distictly average player with a dreadful first touch, really poor finishing, and certainly one I believe we could do without and not seriously damage our chances. If we were to get our money back as well, all the better.

Strachan never sold him to Derby - that was Liewell - and caused a few problems between the parties I'm reliably informed...

I seriously doubt this rumour, but if it's true come January, then we'd be mad not to take the offer. More likely that Strachan will offer less than �£2m if he's interested though. �£1m or �£1.5m would be more realistic.

One thing to consider (rumour or not) is that if Miller was sold; that would mean we'd also have Boyd/Novo (both out of contract next summer) and Lafferty/Naismith (both inconsistent and playing deeper for us) left to play up front for the rest of the season....

We've got Fleck, Loy & other young strikers as well right enough! I can still see Boyd & Novo getting contract extensions.
