As the saying goes - Follow the money trail... ;)

I hadn't actually realized that the shootings were in a province where CAN matches are being played but there you go.

I was reading a similar thread on another forum where a lot of people seemed to be of the opinion that the player safety didn't really matter as long as they're insured & the club wouldn't lose money if anything were to happen, which I find to be quite an odd and cold sentiment. Anyway contrary to what people think about that, an insurance specialist on Sky Sports last night was saying that it's very unlikely insurance companies will be covering the players to be traveling & playing in such a high risk area.

Regarding the insurance it would be highly likely that any insurer would have a "terrorism exclusion" which means they wont insure, or pay out at least, for an act of terrorism.

Either way, that is a shocking sentiment and attitude to have towards fellown humans.

He might now be wondering what he's doing there - swapping a big game in front of 60,000 fans where we manage a draw, in a city where the worst that can happen to him is being struck by a coin or lighter, for a game in front of 900 people where he gets gubbed 3-0 in a place where the worst that can happen is a bullet through the head...

He can wonder that all he likes but at the end of the day he had no option but to be in the latter :)

That's true but it doesn't change the perception - and there is also the large possibility that Bougherra could have persuaded his manager to let him come after the OF game if he really wanted it badly.

International managers can be as draconian as they like but as Burley found out, it is very counterproductive to their job in the long run.

His decision to be so strict has so far been shown to be a joke in any case after that result.
