Andrew Dickson reports from St Mirren Park

RANGERS face another wait to see how severe Kenny Miller's hamstring injury is after he was forced to withdraw from tonight's win over St Mirren early.

The Scotland striker has been plagued by the recurring problem for a number of weeks, most lately pulling up with it against Hamilton last midweek.

Kenny MillerOnce again this evening, he didn't look totally comfortable and had to be substituted in the second half of the 2-0 victory in Paisley.

It seems that Miller faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday's home game with Falkirk, a team he has scored three goals against already this season.

Given Kris Boyd is currently out, being without the former Derby man too would be a big blow for Gers boss Walter Smith.

He said: "Kenny was just struggling a little bit in the second half so we had to take him off as a precaution.

"I don't think it's a serious one but whether he will be fit for the weekend or not, we're not quite sure."

While Miller's troubles continue, there was good news too as Nacho Novo scored on his return from injury and Steven Naismith appeared for the first time in nearly six weeks.

Smith added: "It was pleasing to get a few of our players back again and it was important they got a run out.

It has been an awkward situation for us lately and after having a few people out, we now have to get them a decent amount of playing time.

"That's always going to be difficult but we managed to get Steven some minutes tonight and it was good to see him back."

Anybody else think he was brought back too early ??, I know it's easy for me to say but why risk losing him for longer ??, you would think himself & the Rangers back room staff should know if he is over an injury,no??.

Well lets just hope its not serious as we cant afford to have anymore injuries hampering our bid to find the form of december, we need to be 100% sure that the injured players are ready as bringing them back too early only creates problems further down the line.

Miller's the lynchpin of the team - without him we look slow and stodgy, with him the midfield has a tireless runner to aim at all the time.

His injury last night was a major reason we were so poor - compare with how we played with a weak team but him up front V St Johnstone in the cup. Despite the lack of goals till extra time we played decent football at times and looked very threatening.

Last night he wasn't able to be at the races.

Miller makes us tick.

The thing that's annoying about this recurring problem of Miller's is that he's playing through times of discomfort and not playing at 100% a lot of the time, so we're probably only managing to get short spells of him playing at his best. I can see him struggling on regardless till the end of the season, but he should really make sure to get something done about the problem over the summer. Surely there must be a specialist somewhere in the world that can discover what the problem is by taking & analyzing hi-tech scans. I know he's already seen specialists, but they haven't helped, so just go and see another one.

The thing is though,it's not the same problem he had before,AFAIK, his previous problem was his hip,but I do agree we should not be playing him if he's not 100% fit,he himself should know if he is 100% fit.

I thought they never got to the bottom of what the recurring problem was though? He went to Switzerland or something to see a specialist about it, but I can't remember any news of what the problem actually was. Did I miss something?

Aye mate, WS has stated previously that the hamstring injury is not related to the hip injury he had

The problem we have is that we are so short on strikers - so a 75% fit Kenny Miller will still get the nod. We are in a results-driven business and we need results. Having to rely on a seriously out-of-form Kyle Lafferty doesn't enthuse anyone.

My suspicion is that, had Boyd been fit, we would be seeing less of Kenny Miller right now - he would be played selectively with Novo & Naismith partnering Boyd.

But because of our lack of options up front we are having our hand somewhat forced.

Yep, that sounds accurate enough to me Craig.

Miller is on fire himself (or has been anyway) so the lad will be desperate to play as well - fully fit or not! Can't wait until Boyd comes back as well!
