Creep and the villarreal affair - leggo

2) There is absolutely no point whatsoever in Spiers being made a 'Persona non grata' at Ibrox no matter how distasteful it is that he's treated as the club's guest because; a) it would just be throwing petrol on the fire; b) he could still send someone to Ibrox on his behalf; c) he can still attend our away games at home and abroad; d) it wouldn't stop him from writing his anti-Rangers drivel; e) it's better to keep your enemies close.

Keeping him welcome gives him the idea that he's actually "invincible" or "untouchable" with his press pass, which he isn't. He gets strange ideas because of it. He's not allowed to write anything he wants and thinks he can walk "unpunished". Thus, ...

"a)" would actually only harm him, as every sane press folk will still get their accreditation.

"b)" no, it won't be "him" sending someone, but the Times. And how long they will do that remains to be seen. For someone with brains donw there in London will actually take note of his ineptness.

"c)" ... fair enough.

"d)" ... surely not. But he gets even less publicity, as people will ask about his persona non grata status ... and if mud stucks to us, so it will stuck to him.

"e)" ... he's been close enough for years now, and given his working behind the lines, as Leggat intimated, he used it to full affect. He is no enemy, he'S a charlatan with an agenda. An agenda that keeps him in the mouths of people.

Not sure if I agree. Banning a well known Scottish journo from Ibrox would create a fair amount of publicity. It would also be something which Spiers and any other journo who sympathises with him would mention time and time again when writing anti-Rangers articles and their drivel about sectarianism. I actually think the bastards would try to turn it in their favour.

Guest Dutchy

What a disappointment. Day after day in build up and all he tell's us really is that Speirs in a prick and it was an Austrian that appealed our punishment. I knew all that, but if the documents he possesses, in the shape of emails can get Speirs chastised by the body that takes care of journo standards, then great, but I doubt very much if that will happen.

The article is merely a very damp squid.

Damp Squid: The top 10 misquoted phrases in Britain

British people become tongue-tied over the most simple everyday phrases, with "damp squib" being the one that most of us get wrong, a survey has shown.

Sorry Forlan but I couldn't help it. Apologies.

It's called an "Eggcorn" which comes from a misunderstanding of "Acorn", and plenty are used on here all the time.

Couple of common examples are:

"Change of tact" which should be "change of tack" a sailing term.

"On tender hooks" which should be "On tenterhooks" a stretching device.

A squib is a very small firework like a banger which won't go off when damp...
