If we win and it goes to appeal am sure Auld Lizzie will put in a good word with her underlings. One can't have ones football team going bust. :)

Don't start that....I can see the headlines - "Monarchy biased against us - Celtic's concern"

The story will no doubt start...."Paul McBride QC commented yesterday....."

Hadn't heard about that Craig, quite disturbing to think we could win the case and then face the agony of an appeal. Be interesting to glean anything from the case you mentioned, what the basis for the appeal was etc.

No surrender!

http://www.grant-thornton.co.uk/thinking/bespoke/index.php/article/hmrc_offers_chance_to_avoid_court_and_settle_ebt_enquiries/ - I assume the article on HMRC website has been removed due to the appeal being heard and "case closed"

Cheers for the links mate. Complex stuff but there are lots of reasons why this case on the face of it looks different to the Rangers scenario.

The question raised by HMRC centred around whether or not the employees actually received any benefit from the EBT and whether the trust was set up as a way of ring fencing cash for use by John Caufield (Phones4U guy). The other complication centres around the fact that the EBT was looked after by one firm in Jersey and then taken over and managed by another.

That and the HMRC guy is called Ronald MacDonald!

Did not Portsmouth win a very similar case with HMRC a couple of years ago?

As far as the 2 new companies registered maybe the dark forces against us just wanted to get our troubles back in the papers as the only news about the team wa good news, and at £15 a shout, that's not much to stir it up again.

Altrnatively, if CW is so secrative in his past business dealings, how can the report be so sure there is no connection with CW? Although I admit I can't say why he would do this as I'm not expert in venture capitalist business, with the exception of what I could gleam from the movie Wall Street.

It doesn't appear to be much of a worry as the names can be challenged easy peasy.

IF we do win the case you just know that there will be a massive outcry from the mutants, the entire Govt and every civil servant in the country will automatically be part of a conspiracy to help Rangers win the league. I will laugh myself into a seizure!
