Rangers (Azure) suspend chef

Recommended Posts

A CHEF has been suspended by Rangers after posting photos of himself at IRA shrines on Facebook.

Jamie McGinness was sent home from the clubâ??s training ground when pictures of him beside a mural of Republican Bobby Sands and at an IRA garden of remembrance appeared on his profile page.

Grinning McGinness is pictured giving the thumbs-up next to another large mural in Belfast depicting the Starry Plough â?? a symbol of the Irish Republican movement â?? which says â??Support Republican Socialist Political Prisonersâ?.

Catering chiefs at Murray Park, near Glasgow, have suspended McGinness pending a probe.

In a series of photos, McGinness can be seen standing next to a memorial in Belfastâ??s Falls Road, a Republican stronghold.

The black shrine commemorates killed members of IRAâ??s Belfast Brigade â??Dâ? Company.

Five pictures on McGinnessâ??s personal page show a gable end mural to IRA hunger strike leader Bobby Sands, who died in the Maze Prison near Lisburn in 1981.

It is emblazoned with the Republican slogan: â??Our revenge will be the laughter of our childrenâ? and hails Sands as a â??poet, revolutionary, IRA volunteerâ?.

The photos led Rangers fans to flood supportersâ?? websites with calls for McGinness to be sacked immediately.

Steven Smith of the Rangers Supportersâ?? Trust, told the Record: â??I have seen the pictures and find them abhorrent. It raises questions about how someone who follows that kind of terrorist agenda can work for Rangers.

â??It is terrible that a man who supports any proscribed terrorist organisation can end up with a job at a football club.

â??People fail to realise that their activities online can be clearly and easily tracked.

â??This shows that people should use social networking sites responsibly and not as a vehicle to propagate their repulsive views.â?

Last night, a spokeswoman for Rangersâ?? catering firm Azure said: â??We take speculation of this nature very seriously and have suspended this employee pending a full investigation.â?

Personally, I don't see what the problem is unless he's doing some sort of IRA pose when getting the picture taken. How many people have visited these sort of sites in NI? Rangers and Azure could find this one tough if the boy takes it to a tribunal.

Why would Rangers find it tough ? He is an employee of Azure and it is they that suspended him. The only relevance this has to Rangers is that he works at Murray Park. But that is where it ends. He works at Murray Park for a contractor.

The links to Rangers are tenuous at best.

Jeezo!

I'd like to think that Rangers would've done some background checks and vetted any potential staff who work at Murray Park considering that's where the players are during the week.

Get out of bed the wrong way today?

How many go along and grin and give the thumbs up? How many then post it on their facebook pages?

You don't see what the problem is in glorifying the the IRA?

Yeah, I do. However, I don't see how giving the thumbs up is enough to suspend someone from their job. Maybe hes just happy to be there. Big deal! Posting pictures on FB of you standing next to a mural doesn't mean you're some sort of terrorist either. There will be thousands of photos on FB of people standing next to a mural.

Until Azure, RANGERS and us know the full circumstances, you can't really condone the guy.

Well I've not visited the murdering scum sites and only scum would. It's not Rangers job to check Azure staff we don't own Azure hope the prick gets the sack.

Wonder if he backs a certain section of the mhanky support calling for the launch of the SRA ( Scottish Republican Army ) for too long we've treated these people like silly fools to be laughed at, well it's coming back to bite us on the arse.

I wasnt being grumpy Gav, just asking a question.

Surely the responsibility of vetting the person is that of Azure - the contract between Azure and Rangers should have terms that ensure only suitable people are on site at MP, and that responsibility is Azure's.

Serious question, do RFC even have a legal right to undertake background checks on an individual who has nothing to do with them other than working on their premises ?

But considering the players are worth hundreds of thousands and millions then you'd like to think Rangers, as a club run checks of any staff working within Murray Park as they'll be working close to the players. The Azure staff at Ibrox don't need this as they work in the kiosks nowhere near the playing or coaching staff.

Just a thought.
