Stripping of Titles - Another fine mess

Recommended Posts

Should the SPL decide to strip us of the titles gained during the period when EBT's were used, their actions could open up a whole new can of worms.

If they decide to go down that route, the simplest resolution would be to declare those titles as void - we don't get them, and neither does anyone else. Case closed, lets all carry on.

Should the SPL decided that they want to take a different approach and award said titles to the team that finished in 2nd place, things could get interesting.

The first thing I see happening is the new "champions" looking for compensation due to lost European revenue. Naturally, if the "New champs" had taken the RFC spot originally, they would have won the respective Euro cup, and therefore lost out on many millions of ££££.

There is also the extra money for finishing 1st in the league. Would RFC have to pay that back, and would the "new champs" receive the extra "due" to them???

Also, there is the cost of having all existing literature re-printed to include the revised dates, the distribution costs of getting the revised issues to fans.....and the most important aspect, the time taken to re-colour in said literature, and the cost of new crayons!!!

Most of the points above would also apply to every other team in the league. If all teams had originally finished in their "new" position, it is obvious that all teams involved in European contests would have either won, or at the very least done considerably better.

There is also the possibility that an improved league position may have led to the signing of better players - clubs should be recompensed for that as well.

What about any managers etc that were sacked due to poor league position - should they then get their jobs back, or at the very least clubs should offer substantial payoffs.

Obviously there is only one body that would be ultimately responsible for all these extra costs - RFC!!! It's all their fault after all.

The SPL can only by-pass any follow-ups by the "new champs" if they declare these titles as void. Will that happen? :admin:

First, they have to make a verdict and we have to look at this. Then they shall tell the whole wide world that any EBT case will be dealt with similarly. It remains to be seen whether we appeal any outcome too.

But let's wait what they will tell us :drum:

Ron Scott of the Sunday Post in his collumn today wrote this:

The final stumbling block remains EBTs. Yet, Ironically this should not even be a problem to the SPL and Ultimately, ths SFA.

Rangers never hid the fact they were paying players this way.

It was clearly stated on their accounts from day one, accounts that were registered at Hampden.

Even HMRC admit EBTs are legal, although the tax man is now trying to close this loophole.

If the long running tribunal finding goes against the way Rangers used EBTs, the club will only be fined, not forced to pay back tax.

The SPL appear hell bent on stripping the Light Blues of all the titles they won if they decree EBTs were abused in the form of double contracts.

Rangers want the right of appeal if this happens.

That would go to the SFA and this is what concers the SPL. The SFA have shown no appetite of wanting to eradicate Rangers' name from any victories in the competition they run, the Scottish Cup.

At present all the SFA, SPL and the SFL have done is ensure the season starts on time this weekend, something that was in grave danger of not happening until Frantic Friday.

There is NO CHANCE Ally McCoist will ever sanction Rangers being stripped of their titles, though.

Unfortunately, a lot more water has to flow under the bridge before closure is reached.

This sorry saga looks like it's set to run and run, and it's all down to the fact there is still no leadership being shown in Scottish Football

Does anyone know what happened with Juventus?

I know they had two titles voided because of the match fixing scandal. Also that umpteen clubs were involved.

But was compensation paid to the other clubs that weren't involved? Or was the title being voided the end of it?

I'm certain that no compensation was paid.
