Rangers Ladies have just completed the signing of Suzanne Mulvey from Glasgow City. A sensational signing to make for the club, probably the best striker in Scotland.

Might need to fill in if we suffer any more injuries to Daly or Clark?!

Could she do any worse?

Are we in cynical mode? Sure, Clark needs to find his feet, as have many and older strikers before him at Ibrox. 8 goals and 4 assists in 14 games ain't that bad. As for Daly, that's 15 goals and 8 assists in 21 games. Wonder what people were execting ...

NB: Little is on 14 games, 5 goals and 6 assists.

The new season is edging closer by the day and there has been some activity off the field this winter:

MEGAN SNEDDON last week collected the SWPL Players' Player Of The Year Award as she was recognised by team mates and opponents as the League's top performer. RFC HP

SCOTLAND star Suzanne Mulvey feels she has joined the country’s most progressive team after signing for Rangers Ladies from Glasgow City.

The 29-year-old striker will turn out for Angie Hind’s side next season and her recruitment is a major coup for the Blue Belles RFC HP

AS Rangers Ladies prepare for the 2014 season, which kicks off on March 2nd, they welcome five new players to the squad to add to the existing strong squad who have remained from last season. RFC HP

With regard to the last bit of info, only Suzanne Mulvey (see above) and Melissa Krnjaic are actually new additions to the team, as Erin Cuthbert, Amanda Traynor and Megan Karagiozis "only" made the step up from the talented pool of u17s, who, as people will surely know, won the treble last season. Cuthbert already played for the Ladies team, despite being only 15!

As is being written in the articles, the Rangers Ladies have been on the up since they were formerd in 2008 and only a slump in form straight after the summer break saw them fall behind in the league. Glasgow City will remain favourites for the title, yet, our squad is even stronger now and may very well look to challenge for trophies this season.

BTW, for anyone looking at cutting costs, only the Ladies and u17s get a minimal allowance, all players of the u15s and u13s actually pay to play for us. Most first team players are sponsored by local people or Rangers fans, while the money needed for playing at Petershill et al comes from collections, the SWPL and the like. When you think that this is being done by a team that is potentially 8 months away from Champions League football, well well ...

A bit of a blow now ...

Angie Hind Named Women's Soccer Head Coach

NORFOLK, Va. – Angie Hind, a former assistant national coach for the Scottish Football Association and former head women’s soccer coach at Dartmouth College from 2005-2010, has been named the new women’s soccer head coach at Old Dominion University, as announced today by Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig.

Hind has served as the head coach of the Rangers F.C., a prestigious football club in Glascow, Scotland the past two seasons, compiling a 17-9-4 record, while having 15 players selected to their national teams.

Before taking over for the Rangers, Hind spent two seasons as the assistant national coach for the Scottish Football Association. In those two years, Hind aided Scotland to a 15-10-6 record, as well as qualifying for the Euro Championship Playoffs

From Feb. 2005 to Dec. 2010, Hind was the head coach of Dartmouth College’s women’s soccer program, where she impressively led the Big Green to a 54-38-8 overall record, an appearance in the 2005 NCAA Tournament and three seasons as conference runner-up. Under Hind’s direction, Dartmouth had a total of 28 players selected for All-Ivy League teams, seven All New England selections and four players voted onto the NSCAA All-Region team.

“I am thrilled to announce the hiring of Angie Hind who comes to ODU with a proven head coaching track record from Dartmouth, as well as high level international coaching experience spent in her native Scotland. Her experiences in these two capacities should serve her well as our head coach and help us transition successfully to Conference USA.” says Selig.

“Coach Hind is well connected within the United States and internationally with regard to recruiting. Given her success at Dartmouth, we also feel very confident that Coach Hind will continue to maintain the high level of academic performance demonstrated each year by our women’s soccer student athletes. I am confident our women’s soccer program will thrive under the direction of Coach Angie Hind,” adds Selig.

Before taking over head coaching duties for the Big Green, Hind spent the prior two seasons as an assistant coach at Dartmouth. In her two seasons as an assistant, Hind helped guide the team to a 16-12-6 mark, while helping the Big Green to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2003.

A native of Kilmarnock, Scotland, Hind arrived to Dartmouth after a five-year stint with the Scottish Football Association (SFA). As a player, Hind represented the Scottish women's national team for three years between 1999-2002 and competed for 17 years at the junior and senior levels with F.C. Kilmarnock. She captained F.C. Kilmarnock to five Scottish League and Cup medals between 2001-03, winning every major honor in the Scottish game.

“I am genuinely excited to lead the women’s program at Old Dominion University. The feel that I got from being on campus was that the University is very dynamic and forward thinking and that was absolutely mirrored in the ambition that was showed in the Athletics Department and certainly the direction that we want to move women’s soccer,” says Hind.

Hind’s enthusiasm for not only soccer but academics will blend well at ODU. Over the past couple years, the Lady Monarchs have been impressive in the classroom, as their last official (multi-year) APR score was near perfect at 995 in 2011-12. This past fall, the ODU women’s soccer team held a 3.26 GPA, while a total of nine students-athletes made Dean’s List and four student-athletes held a 4.0 GPA.

After retiring as a player from the national squad, Hind was invited to assist the national coaching staff with the Senior 'A' and youth squads, having previously served as the U-16 national coach from 1997-98.

Hind was also appointed head coach for Scotland's largest girl's development squad program. She coordinated, coached and selected regional squads at U-17, U-15, and U-13 age groups, guiding 18 players who were selected to Scottish national teams at youth and senior levels.

She holds her UEFA 'A' license and the Youth and Children's license and previously served as a staff tutor and coach educator for the Scottish Football Association. A 1998 graduate of Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Hind received her bachelor's degree with commendation in sport coaching and fitness.

Selig concluded, “I would like to thank Sr. Assoc. AD, Deb Polca, and the search committee for conducting such a thorough search process. I was very pleased with the depth and talent of the overall applicant pool for our women’s soccer head coaching vacancy. I think such interest speaks to the quality of our returning student-athletes, exceptional soccer facilities, and the overall state of the ODU women’s soccer program under the leadership of Coach Pereira.”

She brought more quality and stability to the club, one would hope someone equally good can step in in time for the new campaign.

Pre-Season game for the Ladies, the last under Angie Hind ...

Rangers Ladies 8-0 Hibs Ladies

Rangers now look forward a return to competitive action in their game against Edinburgh side Spartans. The game will be the last with Head Coach Angie Hind in charge before her move to the US to take up her role at Old Dominion University in Virginia.

She added: "To say the team are ready to start the 2014 season would be an understatement. These players been working since mid November on various aspects of their individual game and as a team are stronger, mentally and physically, and as a group are closer than ever.

"We are excited about the draw with Spartans and feel prepared for this game. Spartans are a team with some good individual players and we will be aware of that, however our focus will be on how effective we will be."
