Green plans Rangers wage cap

Recommended Posts

I think a wage cap is something we have to look at. In fairness as we climb the leagues the cap will increase but we should not be paying players anymore than £20k a week. Its simply not sustainable while we play in Scotland.

I take your point about our support grumbling though. We alo have to think long term as well.

how do celtic manage it then? they have more than one on at least 25 grand and can handle it no problem.

Documents seen by STV's Scotland Tonight programme show that the Sevco consortium wants to restrict wages to 33% of turnover, barely half the average ratio for SPL clubs.

The owners also plan to increase season ticket prices by 20% in 2014 followed by a further 15% hike the following year as the club is expected to climb up through the divisions.

Scotland tonight is on STV at 10.15pm

1/3 of turnover sounds fine, can't believe the reaction after the summer we had because of years of overspending.

As for the price increases that will take me back to my price before the cuts so no hassle.

fans better get ready for relegation battles in the future. this is ridiculous to say the least. all geared towards making profit and playing on fans blind loyalties. count me out.

Not all Celtic players on £25k plus p.w. Only Brown & ledley I'd say.

We need to get real though and copy the likes of Ajax. We need to buy low & sell high and start producing our own players thro' a youth policy. In the country we're in it's the only way I'm afraid.

Great news and about time imo, should've been in place years ago. In fact I would go a step further and make their wage far more performance related.

We also need a decent worldwide scouting system for a start. Not sure I've confidence in what we've got at present

its not about just over spending though is it rab? its was more about being completely mismanaged. our turnover was anything between 40 and 60 million then, paying our few top players around 20 to 25 grand a week was very possible if the business is run properly, we were not.

the point is, they can handle it so why do we need to cap at a fraction of that which it may well be? we will not be able to compete and fans will only put up with that for so long. in fact most with any brains or personal ambition might just give it a miss and rightly so imo.

we have been saying buy low, sell high for over a decade, we have never been able to do it, why would we start now? we dont have the staff to do it. whilst celtics scouts were out finding the wanyamas, kayals and matthews, what were ours doing? watching spl games?

a wage cap will only increase the already big gap between us and them.

ive never known rangers fans to think long term. quite the opposite in fact.

I've never known many Rangers fans who seem to remember anything that happened five month ago ... unless it is negative. *tongue in cheek, btw*

As for the earlier comments of you with regards to dividends et al ... you would think it was not me but you who was brought up in a socialist country? Obviously, the way you present it paints it black'er than it actually is or will be ... but a broadside at the beginning is always a good start for a heated debate, right?.
