The Michael Mols turn - genius

Recommended Posts

Did you ever watch Mols doing his trademark turn and think "that looks so simple but so effective"? You know the one where he had his back to the defender, he took the ball to feet, he stopped the ball for a split second (defender thinks he's got time) and then he turns and is off.

I've never seen another player really do the same thing to the same effect (Laudrup did briefly, but as Jim Whyte used to say "Why are you so good Brian?"). It did seem so simple but brilliant.

I loved watching the guy. On the night he got injured he was destroying Bayern in Munich. They couldn't cope with his turns. Legend.

Sorry, just got into reminiscing mode.

Mols was an incredible player. I remember him torturing Motherwell at Ibrox, scoring 4 goals - one goal he twisted and turned with back to goal in the middle of the Well box with about 3 players on him and yet all of a sudden he had enough space to put it in the net. I was at the game with my neighbour and his brother in law. His Brother in law had a box at Old Trafford and turned to us and said "You wont be able to hold onto him, in a season or two this guy will be at Old Trafford" - he really WAS that good.

The only other player I recall feeling quite so bad about getting a career-threatening injury was Durrant.

2 incredible players that we sadly never really got to see at their true peak.

Remember being at the Motherwell game, he was unplayable that day.

Gabby Amato was one of the most skilful players I saw in a Blue jersey. Remember when Advocaat said Amato would be limited for starts because Mols was coming in, nobody had really heard of Mols.
