Jamie Ness came out the traps flying and hit a wonder goal against Celtic. Silly lad jumped ship and doesnt seem to play the game anymore.

Id agree with Barry Ferguson, in 1998/99/00 he was quality but was playing in a amazing midfield with Albertz, Gio, Reyna, Tugay, Kanchelskis and McCann.

A similar thread could be started about players who started slowly but then came good. McCoist being the most obvious! But lately Alan Hutton and Alan McGregor were by far the most improved players Ive ever seen at Rangers.

"laudrup was great from the off"

He sure was but he was a Danish Internationalist just out of Serie A. I'm thinking of first season ex juniors or schoolboys who do the business right off and carry on without dips in form. You don't get them nowadays. Even wonderbhoys donnelly, mcgeady and maloney didn't maintain their standards all the time. As for Fleck ....

i agree, excluding the howler of a game he had against AEK Athens when he skinned their left back all night to get to the bye line and hardly got a cross in all night (blocked by left back). You might remember that it promted the "THAT WALTER SMITH INTERVIEW"

So domestically yes, but European no. We all know how good a player he turned out to be for us thought so hope this not seen as critical, just answering the question.

We could be doing with someone like this right now....schoolboy signing, made 4 appearances '63-'64 season but failed to find the net, the following season he displaced Jimmy Millar started against C**t** at porkheid scoring twice in 3-0 win.

Reached 50 goals in 45th appearance, in total scored 145 in 163 games. Yep could do with a player like that at the mo.

Jim Forrest.

Forgot about about JF. Another good example.

Baxter was an experienced player with Raith so he like Laudrup don't fit theproposition though I'm pretty sure Baxter's Kirkcaldy debut would have filled the streets with jivers.
