BARRIE McKAY has now completed the contractual process to pledge his future to Rangers until 2017.

The young winger agreed in principle to a five-year deal last August when team mates Lewis Macleod and Robbie Crawford signed up for the same length of time.

However, under SFA rules McKay was not able to physically sign the contract until he turned 18 which happened on December 30.

Boss Ally McCoist said: “We have now completed the contractual process with Barrie. He deserves it.

“We want the best years of his career to be at Rangers – as we do with all of the young players who are doing well for us.

“It’s a boost for them to sign these deals and it’s a boost for us too. It also shows the fans that good talent is coming through at Murray Park.”

McKay created a piece of history by scoring Rangers’ first goal in SFL 3 in the 2-2 opening day draw with Peterhead.

He has been involved in virtually every match this season, starting 16 of them and coming on 14 times, while scoring four goals in total.

McCoist said: “Barrie is still very young and he does things that young players do but we have been very encouraged by him.

“We are working with him on certain aspects like getting back and tucking in when we don’t have the ball.

“However, he is at a far greater stage in terms of his progression than we thought he would be which is great but, of course, he still has a long way to go.

“Barrie has been called up by the Scotland under-19s for a game in Greece next week and that’s great.

“I’m really keen for our players to be involved in international teams whether it is 19s, 21s or full level and this is another boost for us.”

Any news of Ally perhaps dipping into his £10m war chest and signing any U18 talent before the window closes?
