Talking to UEFA ... methinks this whole scenario about having at least three years of trading record comes from the days when there was a real possibility that sheikhs and Russian millionaires were start buying football clubs, pump money into them like there is no tomorrow and thus water down the European competitions. Whereas we are in many ways a special case.

CHARLES GREEN has launched a thinly veiled attack on Celtic and claimed: At least I’m open about wanting to quit Scottish football.

The Hoops questioned Lord Nimmo Smith’s decision not to strip Rangers of their titles between 2000 and 2011.

In their statement Celts also claimed the club was cementing its place at the top of Scottish football.

Green has made no secret of his desire to leave after the way the club was treated in the wake of its liquidation.

Without naming the Hoops directly, he said: “I have said, and will continue to say, I’m going to explore every avenue to get Rangers out of Scotland.

“But I don’t say it in a darkened room — unlike some clubs who have little clandestine meetings and little whispers. At least I stand on the soap box and tell everyone.”

Green struck a shirt deal with Puma this week — and reckons they’re a better football brand than Hoops backers Nike.

He said: “Puma and adidas are the two top football brands.

“Nike is the best sports brand in the world but they’re not the best in football. They might be the best in running.

“What we’ve got with Puma, which is now part of the Gucci range, is not just about providing shirts.

“It’s also to develop a full range, not something that’s for a season then a throwaway.

“There will be other stuff which you can put in your wardrobe and keep.

“It’ll have nice designs and a nice feel.

“One of the disappointing points has been there’s this fantastic brand yet no one has advertised it internationally.

“You go to America and Australia and you can’t buy any Rangers products.

“One guy said he’d bought a shirt for £29.99 but it cost £59 postage.

“Having Puma, who have got retail outlets, is going to get our product out there.”

Green was in London when Thursday’s SPL ruling was announced.

He wants to take the club forward and not be remembered just as the man who reformed the club.

He said: “Winning on Thursday gives me satisfaction but how many fans had sleepless nights?

“I had people sending me texts, people in London were weeping with joy.”
