Steve Conroy, 46, parted company with the football association after allowing Gers a spot kick in an SPL match against Dunfermline in December 2011. The ref â?? who had 12 yearsâ?? experience â?? ruled Rangers player Sone Aluko had been fouled by Martin Hardie. But an SFA panel later judged that Aluko had dived and handed the player a two-match ban. Conroy, a GP, has been given the go-ahead to take Hampden bosses to an employment tribunal. The details of his claim are not yet known but he is suing for unfair dismissal and age discrimination. Conroy was not available for comment but a source said: â??Stevie felt disillusioned towards the end. â??He has kept his powder dry but the SFA wonâ??t be relishing his claims being heard in public.â? The SFA say Conroy was a â??self-employed contractorâ? who was not employed by them. But he has won his first legal battle against the association after an employment judge ruled that his grievances should be heard. A written judgment issued by judge Frances Eccles states Conroy was an employee under two different employment acts and the case will proceed to a hearing. At a pre-hearing last year, the tribunal heard Conroy was a category one referee from 2000 until his resignation last year. It was reported at the time that Rangers manager Ally McCoist slammed the decision to ban Aluko for two matches and backed the ref. He said: â??Itâ??s an absolutely incredible decision, given that the referee is literally five yards from the incident.â? Conroy was paid around £13,000 each season. Before Conroy achieved Grade 1 status, he had a picture on his wall of the Lisbon Lions. Simply, he was/is aSellik man. Like Wullie Collum, he realised that hs sympathies would not save him if the vicTims decided he had favoured Rangers.
