SFL propose Old Firm "Colt" Teams

Recommended Posts

The Rhebel continuing on with Longmuir the Rangers puppet, straight after the attack by English.

Just makes you sit and shake your head at this country.

It was written by a fat guy with slanty eyes and one of his phuppets put their name to it.

David Longmuir might be guessing or maybe he knows something, could it be Charles green proposed move to the Conference might come off and he thinks Celtic might follow suit to Rangers. By having the Old Firm still in scotland even if it's reserve teams would still be a money spinner if that was possible to work.

This attack on Longmuir has probably just set him up for abuse from the bigots and crackpots out there with an agenda against all things Rangers, and this is the same rag that attacked Ally for his comments about who were to be on the panel when judging Rangers football matters!

On a sidenote, he proposes colt teams not just for Rangers, but the Scum's juniors too. So he' hardly catering to us.

On another sidenote, even if it is "only" the Swifts that come to town, you would expect that the local Rangers support will show up in numbers to see the next generation/reserves in action ... and thus swell the coffers of the local sides.

Not sure, in the short term what advantage there would be to us having a Colts team - given we are using all of our best young players in the 1st team our Colt team would struggle badly.

Longer term there are clear advantages to this.

Methinks our reserves and youngsters do reasonably well of late, despite a handful being called up into the first team (out of necessity). The likes of Gallagher, Crawford, Naismith and Aird do not get a full game either, or at least not regularly, so giving them competitive football each week would sure be a good thing. Whether this has consequences for the youth sides and their leagues remains to be seen.

Likewise, I do hope that we get up to 5 players in for next season, and not all of the squad will regularly feature in the first team either. Better they have competitive games than the odd few hours at training and DVD or video-game sessions afterwards. (Last line was by my cynical self ... )

Scottish Football League chief executive, David Longmuir, emerged from the shambles that the game’s administrators got themselves into last year with a remarkably solid relationship with the SFL’s member clubs, indeed, he has been singled out for high praise from the Newco-club.

The flow of sentiment reversed after he wrote to member clubs suggesting Celtic and Newco-Rangers enter ‘colt’ clubs in the Third Division. This bizarre suggestion was justified on the basis that if Celtic and Rangers join another league, while leaving the rest of the leading clubs behind, their colt teams would continue to bring interest and revenue to the game.

Mr Longmuir seems to have missed the fact that in the event any of the above comes to pass, the departure of Celtic and Newco-Rangers would then create an opportunity for colt clubs to be considered. Their inclusion now is unnecessary, especially when Newco could potentially enter administration next season, lose players, suffer the mandatory 25 point penalty and be relegated into the bottom division with their colt players, who presumably would also suffer administration-related penalties.

Speculation that Mr Longmuir is taking care of current business until he is ready to move to Newco is becoming hard to ignore. Newco need to get themselves out of the bottom league first, though. The colts team idea is certain to be rejected, the question will not even reach the SPL or Celtic. The 12-12-10-10 idea favoured by Newco is looking an increasingly hard sell, with 12-12-18 more likely. Mr Longmuir better look after the interests of all his member clubs if he wants to hang on long enough to move straight to Newco. If he loses his ability to be a dealmaker I’m not sure what he can offer an aspiring £100m company.

The Obsession from the Enemy.

But dB, if we have a Colt team they would need to be registered with that team I would think. Rendering them unavailable for 1st team duties. In the short term that would exclude a number of players - plus, you are talking about players like Gallagher, Crawford etc - yes, they have done well but that is beside other seasoned pros. Given our first team struggle against SFL3 opposition it is not outwith the realms of possibility that the Colts would struggle even more - you get the benefit of competitive games but could also get the negative of being beaten by so-called inferior teams.

The system of havin B- or 2nd Teams in the lower leagues is pretty common in Spain and Germany. I do not know exactly how it exactly works in terms of registering people, but since this is a new thing in Scotland, it could be based on either regular loaning players or simply make them all registered members of one club with two teams. Essentially, it could just remain as it is/was with the reserve league. The players used there will obviously have to get their act together ... how else could they claim a spot in the first team? Obviously, it will not be the same as it is now when Rangers come to town, which will in due course rid the Swifts of the cup-final approach by these other teams.

I would rather envisage opposition from the better non-league teams.
