Rangers hit with SFA legal bill over player dispute

By Chris McLaughlinSenior Football Reporter, BBC Scotland

Rangers are facing a legal bill after a Scottish FA panel judged they should pay the expenses of five former players they were in contract disputes with.

Sone Aluko, Kyle Lafferty, Steven Naismith, Jamie Ness and Allan McGregor all quit the club when it was placed into liquidation last year.

The players refused to transfer their contracts from the old company to the new one, which the club challenged.

The SFA insists Rangers should pay all legal bills relating to the dispute.

Thought this wasn't resolved yet? How can SFA impose this ?

So wee Specky McLaughlin still claiming club was placed into liquidation. Club was 'sold' It's SFA licence transferred from oldco to newco hence history continued.

As yet nothing has been liquidated. The oldco is simply an empty corporate shell with £5.5m in its account. All its assets have been transfered to newco.

Football in this country stinks to high heavens. A blind man could see that all this is leading to some kind of blackmail, when we consider the SPL threat too.

Absolutely disgraceful.

And Regan had the cheek to say "let's put everything behind us" or suchlike, a couple of months ago.

Let them weep for their sponsorship and their media deal.

I'd rather stick hot needles in my eye.

Scottish football is dead.

RANGERS are about to be hit with yet another bill after a panel ruled they are liable for the legal expenses of five former players they were in contract disputes with.

Sone Aluko, Kyle Lafferty, Steven Naismith, Jamie Ness and Allan McGregor all quit the club when it was placed in liquidation last year.

The players refused to transfer their contracts from the old company to the new one, which the club challenged.

Now the panel has ruled that Rangers should pay all legal bills relating to the dispute.

The panel was established and facilitated under the SFA’s articles of association after agreement was reached by the club and players over who should represent each side of the dispute, with a chair appointed to review both parties’ claims.

However, the SFA is not directly involved in the arbitration process and has no influence over any decisions taken by the panel.
