Frightening quotes from Ally

Good point about the best young players - even if we could afford them we can't sign them.

If we spot them early enough, there is no reason not to get young talented players in.....even if they only stay a couple of seasons, then sold on for a profit. McCoist is referring to known talented youngsters who could command a reason price, we need to get them before they have developed a reputation.

I love the way we assume that we would spot them "early enough"....

You dont think that all the world renowned clubs arent trying to recruit them "early enough" too ?

Absolutely guaranteed that Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern etc are all doing the same thing in trying to recruit the best young talented players early. In fact, I read an article a couple of months ago about a young English lad (7 yrs old) that was in Barcelona on holiday and was having a kick around in the main square and was "spotted" - Barcelona had the kid signed up for trials the same day. And even from such a small place as Bermuda we have about 5 or 6 kids who are out in Spain with a club called UE Cornella - and they are as young as 9 - aqnd Barcelona often tap that same club for their best talent and take them to Barcelona, even at such a young age.

Whilst we continue to say that we should "spot them early enough" - the reality is that we are not working in a vacuum when looking at signing talented kids....

The big problem is that we don't appear to be spotting anyone early....even those within our own academy.

I'm sure there are plenty young players - Nicky Clark as an example - that have bags of potential, that are already playing within the Scottish senior game. however, at times our management seem to prefer going the "exotic" route - marquee signings if you will.

We also need a proper global scouting network. What we've had over the past few years has been lamentable.

Ideally what we want is a squad of players all of whom have a resale value of some sort.

Lets start with a decent LOCAL scouting system, then expand on that....

Agree with you but I'm not convinced that in this country we can produce the players we once did any more. No idea why but when you see the number of non-Scots at all Scottish clubs I think you'll see what I mean. Think that's why we need a global scouting network

Does anybody have an overview what a global scouting system would cost? All the top clubs, and I think that's what we should be aiming at long term, have their scouting specialists for the respective regions of the world. I suppose this costs them a lot of money though.

can't disagree with that...however, if we can't get it right @ a local level, what chance is there of is being successful on a global scale???

Fully agree. Classic example is Northern Ireland. How many Rangers-supporting young players have left there to join English clubs which we apparently missed out on or weren't aware of. Most obvious example just now Jonny Evans. Plenty others past & present
