So why did HMRC allow Whyte to avoid paying over PAYE/NI for so long?

Recommended Posts

Did D&P release info where they represented whyte on non-payment and agreed Whyte would pay up? he never and the rest is history. Pretty sure D&P met with HMRC far back as September 2011.

perhaps they wanted control of the cva so they could make sure we didnt get on if whyte was still involved.

infact i bet thats it.

You could be right but who would take that decision inside HMRC ? and why? were they influenced by anyone?

why would D&P meet with HMRC 6 months before Rangers went into administration?

D&P advised Whyte on the takeover, finances and on the PAYE/NI payments. Recall a statement from D&P that was in PDF format but can't find it on my hard drive. it was mainly through David Greir.

I'm sure I read on here a few months back that the SFA knew as far back as October. Which also around the time Greig and McLelland walked. Ken Olverman apparently also flagged his concerns to his regulatory body who told him to leave it to CW to handle......

Traynor says that he and Jackson told them back in October, iirc

I still think it is a stretch to blame HMRC for this.

At the end of the day Whyte didnt pay the PAYE & NIC. Even if HMRC had requested it or told him to pay.... do we honestly think that a) he would have or b) he had the funds to do so.

Seems more to me like we are looking for additional scapegoats rather than lay the blame where it should be, at the feet of Craig Whyte.
