Derby County v Rangers Friendly Confirmed

Recommended Posts

Johnny Russell finds our defence fertile ground. I am sure he is lookin forward to ploughing a familiar furrow.

An interesting snippet, the night we secured the ECWC in Barca, Brian Clough's Derby County were playing Airdrionians in the Texaco cup final at the Baseball Ground. It was a season long cross border tourney, and I think County narrowly pipped a very good Airdrie 2-1 in a two-legged final. Do Derby County list the Texaco cup as an honour?

Ally McCoist’s side will visit the iPro Stadium on Saturday 2nd August.

Derby County will host Scottish giants Rangers at the iPro Stadium in their final pre-season friendly ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

Ally McCoist’s side will visit the iPro Stadium on Saturday 2nd August, kick-off 1:00pm. Ticket information for the game will be announced on the official website, http://www.dcfc.co.uk, in due course.

The Gers were due to play in the first round of the Scottish League Cup on either 2nd or 3rd August, but the fixture will now take place on either Tuesday 5th or Wednesday 6th August.

Rangers were one of the ten founding members of the original Scottish Football League, remaining in Scotland's top division until the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

Last season they finished as the Scottish League One Champions, 39 points ahead of second-placed Dunfermline, as well as reaching the final of the Challenge Cup.

In domestic football, Rangers have won more league titles and trebles than any other club in the world; winning the league title 54 times, the Scottish Cup 33 times, the Scottish League Cup 27 times, and achieving the treble of all three in the same season seven times.

In European football, Rangers became the first British club to reach a UEFA tournament final; winning the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1972 after being runner-up twice in 1961 and 1967, while a third runners-up finish in Europe came in the 2008 UEFA Cup.

Head Coach Steve McClaren’s squad will report back for pre-season training on Wednesday 25th June before the matches get underway the following month, with the new season due to start on Saturday 9th August 2014.

The Rams are to face non-league sides Mickleover Sports, Matlock Town, Ilkeston and Nuneaton Town as well as Football League sides Burton Albion and Notts County.
