John Guidetti: Charged by SFA

Recommended Posts

This is just getting out of hand. So Hearts players sang a song which was less than complementary about us. So what?

Let them get on with it - because we sure as hell will be doing the same and worse when we win the top division again.

Let's leave the permanent po-faced, sanctimonious offendedness to them

And when we do, we will be hammered with everything they can throw at us. This situation has gone too far and your comments are very naive if you think by leaving them to it, as you say, we will be left alone as well.

Is it just me that finds this stuff pathetic? It's like teenage lassies playing their drama queen stuff. Is anybody on either side genuinely offended by any of it? Honestly and truly?

absolutely not but the issue is about where this ends. when they tag certain words out of bounds because of perceived meaning rather than it's actual meaning then there will come a point where anything could be construed as offensive to them. we should find a new word for them(Plebeian!) and insert it every song and you will soon find they deem it offensive as they will argue that it has hidden meanings.

I think you will find it is not the words that are the problem but using them in a derogatory way. You can use the word ****** in normal talk but not use it in a derogatory way.

in that case the hearts boys should be pulled for the F### the rangers songs. I think the problem is when words are of a sectarian, rascist or discriminatory nature. Choose a neutral word and they will just say you actually mean anti irish anti catholic blah blah whether that is your intention or not.

Maybe because it took place outside of Scotland they can't get involved?

Any sectarian abuse that is football related can be prosecuted under the offensive etc act. This was included so they could "do" fans on their European trips if caught using sectarian language at an away game in England or abroad. If you live here you can be done here apparently.

If the word fe***n is banned so should hun. Simples.

Personally, I don't agree with it but it has to be even handed.

Do you ever hear a Rangers fan proudly call themselves a H**? There is a clear definition between the two, and one is totally offensive, the other is only offensive if the person using it is not one.

Correct or almost correct TB, see#12 qualified by #19.

It can be prosecuted so long as it is "in relation to (a) regulated football match".
