Record FC Hibernian: Missile throwing at Ibrox was a step too far...

...and should in no way be repeated in return leg at Easter Road.

BLOGGER Jamie Montgomery questions why nothing was done when Hibs players were bombarded with rolled-up paper on Wednesday and whether the SFA will do anything about it.

HIBS were pretty well beaten on Wednesday. That hurts to say, again. It's hard to argue otherwise, even though they played some nice football.

So, having accepted defeat on the field, I have to turn my attentions to the gross incompetence of the Rangers staff, stewards and Police Scotland at Ibrox.

The constant missile throwing from the home support was nothing short of abysmal. This is a club that the SFA are moving heaven and hell to try and get back to the top tier yet their fans seem to be stuck in a timewarp. How anyone in the game can think it's acceptable to throw any kind of missile at players is beyond me.

The fact that rolled-up pieces of card were thrown constantly at the Hibs players, with one corner of the pitch completely changed in colour to red, white and blue, as a consequence, was bizarre to watch.

You can't stop a rogue radge throwing something on the pitch, I get that. But for the same person, quickly joined by all his mates, to be allowed to do it for ninety minutes was unbelievable.

Let me get this straight, it did not affect the result. But it affected Hibs players trying to take corners and goal kicks. That's not acceptable. When nothing was done to stop it, I was genuinely stunned. It was almost as if it was being treated as a bit of a laugh by police and stewards.

At one point all ball boys/girls, and indeed spare footballs, were also posted missing as the home support played keepie-uppie in the stand. I don't think the club displayed any sporting behaviour throughout the match. An intimidating crowd and a great atmosphere is great for the game and is one thing, but Wednesday was a step too far. I can't and won't defend it if the same happens at Easter Road as a result.

I've no doubt Rangers will get some minor slap on the wrist from the SFA, however, that does not stop the decay which is set in with the bricks and mortar at the Rangers.

The Hibs team itself needs to learn how to adapt to a stop-start game, their passing and movement frequently brought to a shuddering halt by the ever dutiful Calum Murray. The referee showed himself up to be pretty weak, constantly reacting to the Rangers crowd.

I can only assume he was unable to hear the Hibs fans when our players were clattered. Both Darren McGregor and Dean Shiels were guilty of persistent fouling in the first half, all of which went unpunished.

Surprise, surprise that our own Scott Robertson was booked for his first tackle, even though it was a shoulder charge, after being fouled by Nicky Clarke just before.

Even handballs are acceptable if you play in blue as Haris Vuckic would agree.

All in all Hibs didn't do enough to win the game but I won't stand by and say we bottled it or any of the other nonsense you hear.

Anyway, all that aside, Rangers haven't won this yet. There's a full ninety minutes left to play where anything could happen.

Mon the Cabbage.

I have to say I agree totally with the first part of his post. The throwing may have been funny once but it should have stopped there. Where I do disagree is that I believe the Referee should have stopped the game and made Rangers announce that the match would be abandoned if it continued. To start arresting people could have caused a riot. The Ref was the person that should have acted in my opinion.

Ach!,it was more of a nuisance than anything, what's more worrying is why the DR is printing a Hibs fans opinion!

New on the scene Rangers hater. Expect the same old tired diatribe. He has fitted the bill thus far......

Same clown came up with this garbage - Ticket farce proves that Rangers have no sporting integrity.

Bitter and twisted. Same as usual!

Their inferiority complex really does cause them emotional damage over time.

I agree it was nuisance Ian but we can't have people throwing things at players. If that was against us we would all be up in arms. The guy that hit Fernando with a lighter at the piggery could also say it was just nuisance.

Not even close to comparison Pete.

It was paper!,I would argue that because it was Rangers fans that it seems to be a problem,it was a nuisance from young fans,IMO hardly worth getting too excited about. It may however have an affect on future card displays?.
